I think New Zealand have the right idea and ban them completely although in the real world no one else will follow suit.

I agree, nuclear arms are the most idiotic of amourment.
People should spend more time on deveoping biological warfare. That way it would only kill humans and it would leave the world safe after we left.

I agree nuclear weapons might be the most idiotic of weapons but there're also the most effective!

Are we saying New Zealand isn't the real world? I agree they should be banned but it is very difficult to uninvent something. What I find hard to take is that we built these things and nuclear power without ever thinking "Hey, when these things reach the end of their life, how will we get rid of them?". I know the state of decommissioning in this country and it scares me S***less to think that there are less technologically advanced people who already have these things!

Actually, Fuel-Air Explosives (FAEs) can be every bit as effective as nuclear weapons, but carry none of the nasty aftereffects, such as fallout. An FAE can be a massive device, dropped from a cargo plane (the weapon used at the end of the movie Outbreak is an example), but smaller types are used by dedicated ground-attack aircraft. When an FAE is dropped, the container opens, releasing some form of fuel or petrochemical into the air. The container also contains an electrical or mechanical detonator. As the fuel mixes with the air (becoming an aerosol), it can spread over a huge area. The now-empty container continues to fall through this fuel-air mixture. At a preset altitude, the detonator fires, instantly turning this cloud of fuel into a massive fireball. The heat and blast effects are on par with a small nuclear device, but there is no fallout and no lingering radiation.

Somehow that doesn't make me feel any better!

Right, that does it. We in NZ are going to declare ourselves a FAE-free Zone too, see if we don't.

I saw the Tellytubbies recently, dressed in white and calling themselves the English rugby team. Our secret weapon of mass destruction, Jonah Lomu, dealt with them OK.

Translation: Scotland haven't beaten the All Blacks. Ever. After 94 years of trying. This weekend shouldn't change much.
