h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Remember this is all constructive criticism that I wouldn't bring up if I didn't think that it would make everyone happier. Where's the "Don't Panic" sign? Since I read the first of the "Hitchhiker" books, I was fascinated with the "Don't Panic" sign. It is a symbol for the brilliant construction that makes the guide a poster-child for lunacy. A guide without the "Don't Panic" sign is like a messy sub without a colorful toothpick in the middle. They serve the same purpose: to look nice and to keep everything together.

Yes, I realize that the "Help!" icon serves the same pupose and goes to the same place, but that's not the point. The fictional guide doesn't have a "Help!" sign. It has "Don't Panic". It's the principle, you see.

It did used to read Dont Panic, but as the Guide evolved, and more people started using it who hadn't read the books, it changed to read Help. I suppose it's a kinda small sacrafice we have to put up with for having the Guide open up to a larger community.

The Don't Panic page has a large, friendly "Don't Panic" logo (& you were lamenting the lack of a "sign") - just like the original in the radio series (which didn't have a Don't Panic button only a the words on the cover)

You know, there's a small bit of Goo just to the right of the banner ad that would look much better with the addition of DON'T PANIC as a little logo... if they insist upon linking it then it could just point to the Don't Panic pages, the same as Help! does.

(This is the sound of Mark going on holiday, and absolutely refusing to be drawn into the Don't Panic discussion again... )

Take note: only a suggestion. I think that it would make the experience much better for everyone, but we all have our opinions. The majority should rule.

I think the majority of current Researchers would prefer Don't Panic to Help! - but at least they put a ! on the end of it

Mark, I think you're very wise not to be drawn into the debate again... but I do think putting Don't Panic _somewhere_ on the Goo would be nice. Or maybe a possible future skin?

Of course, all that's been mentioned before as well...

Am I the only one that spies a little section on classic goo located in the upper left corner below the BBC ONLINE logo and above the MY SPACE icon. It seems to be big enough for a "Don't Panic" sign. also, there's lots of room under the "Logout" icon. But, once again, majority rules. Speaking of ruling: Mark, you rule!
