Was it something I said?

Sorry but I've been getting "website offline" messages
and this is the first time I have been able to access h2g2
for the last couple of days.

It comes up as Pliny and I have no experience of the way
that skin works, resulting in being able to only see the
'latest convos' list. Recognising an ASK thread I managed
to get to a 'Start a Convo' button...

I see no other conversations regarding this recent loss of
service so I am obliged to ASK here, what's going on?

Was there some sort of new reboot that defaults my old
2000 URL link to h2g2.com to the Pliny front page
and not my own Alabaster homepage?

For what it's worth the "website offline" message was
very specific showing my own ISP connected to the overseas
servers in Newark NJ but no activity on the h2g2.com site.

smiley - cheers

I clicked on my own name as shown in the OP and have managed
to reach my homepage and reset my preferences.

But it remains to learn why the web said the site was down
and also to retest my URL link. I may be gone sometime.

Pink Paisley

I had a little difficulty getting in for a few hours the day before yesterday.

The problem is, there is nowhere to go to find out if anyone else is having a problem.

PP.

They've had major server problems over the last day or two. I don't know if they've stabilised it yet, but they're going to have to confront the concepts of resilience and service continuity if they want a professional-looking website going forward. The trouble is, this costs money, as it generally relies on you hosting redundant kit, buying premium vendor support, etc.

I did see one tweet communication from the italics saying they were having problems, but, yes, another channel would be good - why not set up a proboards 'h2g2 is down' site? We did that for the BBC Online Messageboards back in 2003.
