I like it Got a few things to say about it...
minor nit-picks: "won't ever do away" should read "won't ever go away", "poseuers" should read "poseurs" and "Death Metal" in the paragraph about Black Metal should read "Black Metal" (I think). Incidentally I've always included Black Metal under the heading of Death Metal, but that's just me.
You may want to include a few other categories of HM, such as Grunge (Nirvana etc), Lite Metal (ugh! Bon Jovi etc), Glam Metal (Kiss, Motley Crue etc) and Doom Metal (slowed-down offshoot of thrash - Paradise Lost etc). It's pretty cool to draw a 'family tree' of heavy metal - its evolutionary history is quite fascinating.
I tend to group the traditional-style old-timers (AC/DC, Sabbath etc) under the heading of Classical Heavy Metal, a phrase I picked up a long time ago from a big book on the subject of heavy metal. It helps to distinguish them from the glammed-up likes of Kiss.
I'd also (personally) take the story back a little further in time - think of the Kinks in 1964 with "You Really Got Me" - a very heavy sound for its era.

Well, ok, I've re-read it and it's not as bad as I thought it was. There are some facts which are, frankly, wrong.
Pink Floyd are not, and were never a metal band. I can't believe I put that in *^_^*
AC/DC are not Australian. Metallica are not British.
AC/DC was founded in Sydney, Australia, but the main purpotrators of the band were Scottish.
And thanks for the sub-genres, Artica! I drew a blank when I made the list *^_^*. D'ya think you're up to adequetly describing grunge, shite metal, doom and glam? Cos I'm not into that stuff, so I'm not sure if I'm up to the task. Well, if you pressed me, I would try...
And the list (reluctantly) c/Rap-metal.

I'm a bit tongue-tied for words, but I'll say: compare Slipknot and Kittie to The Workhouse Movement and any other rap-wannabe and you'll hear the difference. Not that I listen to these much.
