Tomorrow Gordon is taking me and Mum to Whitby, to visit Mum's brother Eddie and his wife Rona, who we hasn't seen in 13 years. I will also be meeting my cousin Fiona (who I talk to on Facebook all the time) for the first time since we were teenagers
Gordon's 2 German students are on half-term, of course, so they're going with us as far as Hull and we'll be dropping them at The Deep where they can happily spend a few hours while we go visiting relatives.

I should add that this is a *surprise* to Mum, as far as she is concerned it's going to be the usual Wednesday shopping trip plus lunch with me

I think I read about Whitby in "Dracula". A great book.

You did. It's the busiest week of the year according to my cousin, and she runs a shop selling/renting Goth stuff. She'll be lucky to get a half-hour lunch break to spend with us

Someone once told me Whitby does the best fish & chips - is this true? (I've never been)
(yes, I know)

We might try that, although I'd be surprised if I ever found better and than Steele's Restaurant in the Market Place in Cleethorpes (sorry, isn't that advertising?)

We did have a great time, but our hosts had a meal prepared for us so we didn't end up getting Whitby and
We left Mum chatting happily while Gordon, Fiona and I had a walk into Whitby, where Fiona collected her husband Allan from their shop, leaving their assistant in charge for the very first time so us 4 could have a small time together, walking along the harbour at Whitby. When they left us we got ourselves an ice-cream and walked over the Bridge to the *other* side, lots of shops to see and tourists to avoid and, with me in my high-heeled boots practically crippled we hailed a taxi to go back to my Uncle & Aunt's house. Here's a snap of them with my Mum: http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/galaxybabe/Favourites#5533146023327183346
