Dark mornings and dull days

I had to drive home in the dark this morning, such a dreary day weatherwise too. Got to do Mum's run then take her grocery shopping then for a special lunch as it's her birthday Friday and as she's going out with the widows' group she belongs to on that day, I won't see her on the actual day, so she's getting fish & chips in the best chippie in town, Steele's restaurant, where she had her 90th last year. There'll only be me with her today though, my sister's in Egypt and my brothers are working. Dad will be there in spirit, of course.
If any of you has a spare moment could you pop along to Peer Review and have a read of one of my six (yes, six!!!) articles in there, I do appreciate feedback and ideas for other articles to keep the EG alive... they're not all about astronomy either (only four are) one is a and the other is a film write-up
All together now... Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious...

I am convinced you have different days from the rest of us, with 48 hours in each! I just don't know how you do so much
Take care, the dull days are here too and it is not nice, I prefer crisp, cold and sunny, with not too much cold.

Yes, the chilly bright days of early Autumn are finished now, and we are into the dull, wet days of late Autumn. Time to set the heating to come on in the mornings, I think.

Wow, your mum is 91, that is really good. I hope she enjoys her birthday
Mine was 80 yesterday, although she now is deciding to remove a few years which makes all of her daughters younger too.
I'm afraid I flew away for the winter. You are all welcome to visit.
Re the EG, I might have a bit more time for it now.

Later mornings, and we're in the washing machine right now.
I loaded up on groceries yesterday and will sit this one out at home since I don't have to go back to work until Friday.
You can probably check out the public webcam about 1700 UTC and see the big big rain in squalls for about four hours or so.

Bring on the tropical storm!

Before I left my house I checked my bank account and there's another direct debit I'd been told was cancelled, debited from my account. The station was understaffed so we waited an hour while one nurse did the work of two and then headed for the Bank to credit me with the recalled direct debit.
Then in Tescos the woman behind me started stacking her stuff while I was still offloading my trolley, leaving me not enough room, so I had to keep shoving her stuff back. Then the checkout operator told me I couldn't have my usual 2 boxes of paracetamol painkiller tablets plus the sachets of flu treatment I'd bought, as I was only allowed two. Then he never credited me for reusing my own bags, so I had to queue at Customer Services to get my bonus points
Then when we got to the Market Place in Cleethorpes there was one parking space but it was so tight I had to let Mum out first then park, and I got drenched between the car and the restaurant because that's when it decided to pour down. But I'm glad I'm not doing all this in your stormy weather, Dave!
Lunch was good
I'd bought a birthday for Mum so we headed back to hers for a and but I'd not finished my when Andrew texted, he had been dropped off from college but forgotten his key... (again!!!) so I had to leave her to let him in. I am now debating whether to change clothes, as I'm damp all over, but I have to go out (in the rain?) again at 7pm to run Andrew to his club tonight (and collect him at 11pm).
48-hour days? I'd collapse in a heap...

I must pop over to PR, not been there much for a while.
I intended to go swimming last night but when I got home it was getting dark so I just put warm comfy clothes on and stayed in.

Hubby used to those and grocery shopping things with his mum, also on a Wednesday, GB. The grocery shopping took forever, Lorna used to stop and talk to everyone (whether they were interested in what she had to say or not) He used to come home absolutely shattered.
Get out of those damp clothes, you can't be poorly, you do *so* much.
I'll have a pop back to PR soon. Not been there in a while.
We have a 'Royal Visit' (from A's brother) on Friday and we've all been poorly here so some domestic chores have been left and *need* doing now...

For what is supposed to be a tropical storm, I've not seen 10 raindrops so far. It looks on radar as if a wall has been thrown up 10 miles east of Key West, and nothing can pass.

Thanks Gnomon
Perhaps we have your tropical storm, Dave. I just got drenched to the skin again, and it's scary how much water is on the surface of the roads, and the idiots out there driving with no headlights on
And I have to do the journey again at 11pm!

We've certainly got a lot of wind here, although the cool evening temperature has now fallen to 28 degrees Centigrade

The vagaries of tropical weather. We got nothing; Key Largo, barely 100 miles east, got almost 10 inches of rain. The rain shield danced around Key West as though we were the empty circle at the center of the radar field.
Here is an archived loop of yesterday's 24-hour radar tracking:
http://radblast-sf.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/radar/WUNIDS_composite_archive?centerlat=24.60408020¢erlon=-81.62238312&radius=124&newmaps=1&type=N0R&type2=TR0&num=24&SD.epoch=1285732800&ED.epoch=1285819199&DELAY=60&delay=20&width=640&height=480
Our aquifier is Lake Okeechobee, and a heckuva lot of rain fell there, so I guess it went where it would do the most good and the least harm.

You are right GB! Steele's is definitely the BEST restaurant in town. Have a lovely time.
