While I was collecting Andrew from his club yesterday Mum phoned and left a message on my answering machine to say my brother Keith's two daughters (plus one husband) were over from Nottingham, and could they pop round for me to write something for his "This Is Your Life" they're preparing for next weekend's family meal (it's his 60th on 2 June) they all live in Nottingham but he has schoolfriends here so the meal is at the Pear Tree pub just across the road in Humberston.
So, I'm all prepared for Rebecca, Jennifer and Jono to turn up when the door opened and in walked Allan and Jenny!
My goodness did he look gorgeous in a suitthey had been to his goddaughter's Christening, (he was wearing a pink tie in Caitlin's honour), we barely had time to greet when Becky, Jen & Jono arrived (I've not seen them since Dad's funeral) but they didn't stay long as they were hoping to catch my younger brother Rob before heading out to my sister's at Nettleton. I wrote a page about how Keith used to give me pocket money for making a cuppa before he got up, rather than jokes about passes which is what everyone else seemed to be doing
Once they'd left, Jenny fell asleep and Allan played a Warhammer game with Andrew then Jenny woke up and I made her laugh by showing her the Caption Contest captions in The Postbut she told Allan not to look at the photoAndrew then made them both laugh by doing his impression of Allan which is no doubt going to become his party piece. They're even coming over next weekend for Keith's birthday meal, wow, three weekends on the trot! Jenny looked very tired and keeps falling asleep, they've just moved to a council house (new house - new baby) and Allan's earning enough to keep them both so they're considering her giving up work for a while. I'm fighting the urge to wrap her in cotton wool and wish I lived closer so I could do some serious mollycoddling. Next January seems such a long way off even though I'm sure it'll fly if I just think about other things and hand this over to the troop of I've requested.

Thanks Bel
I forgot to mention Andrew's impression was of Allan's party piece, that he's been doing: "Homer Simpson", since he was a little boy so to hear Andrew do it exactly the same is - Andrew doing Allan doing Homer Simpsonlaughter is great medicine.

My brother's Homer impersonation:
... Ah! The BATTERIES!...
He uses it everytime the remote control doesn't work
Here's to a wonderful time next weekend

You did have an eventful day yesterday, but a good one by the sound of it .
I must be honest, I have never been keen on the 'This Is Your Life' acts, went to a wedding the once where the groom's dad insisted on telling his daughters life story etc... I guess you have to know that side of the family well enough to understand the jokes etc...
All the best GB .

Here in the US it's customary for the best man to embarrass the groom - but that is something the father should never do to the bride on her day of days as women's sense of humor is different, I've noticed.
Well, glad your visitors made for a happy day GB

Had an emergency call this morning from my nieces, "Auntie Ann, we can't get over before Dad and Maureen, so can you pick up the cakes and decorations from Grandma's and take them to the pub?"
These are the cakes I collected on Wednesday and took them to Mum's
Sure,
"Thanks, you're a !"
Yes, I knew that

Hey lil, it's a good job they never expected me to blow up the balloons, innit?
Mind, I'd have roped you in, after you'd wiped that sticky mouth, of course.
you know, I bought a new top for tonight's party, but I just tried it on and er, well, it's a little more over-exposed that that turquoise top I wore to the meet. D'ya think that's a bit much for a family doo? It's pretty It's got butterfly lace round the bosom area.

If you like it, and want to wear it, you could try pinning a brooch and closing the gap a little
To be honest, just get out there and enjoy yourself

that sounds painful
Oh, you mean the top!I dunno if I own a brooch. 'S a bit, grannyish, innit? I'd have to be real grown-up to wear a brooch. I do have a h2g2 badge, will that do?

Brooches worn like pasties would not be grannyish at all - It worked for Janet Jackson on national tv - but would be perhaps a bit much for a family do.
Have fun. Take pix.
