So there was I, dripping wet, waiting to be served in the Post Office.
Got my stamps, proceeded to a desk to stick stamps to envelopes without them sticking elsewhere, to find the desk is being used by a couple.
Noticed the woman giving her stamps to the man, who licked them and gave them back to her for sticking on the envelopes.
Good teamwork.
I couldn't help remarking, "That's what I miss about my husband most, his tongue."
It was only when the people still queueing for their stamps started sniggering and giggling that I realized just what I'd said and exited the place cheeks blazing.

I must admit I prefer the peelable sticky stamps, they don't make you ~shudder~
currently the new first class stamps look like an envelope with a penny black in the corner, 2legs. Celebrating 160 years of post, I think...but they taste awful.

The US has gone to using self-sticking stamps, almost exclusively.
I miss the engraved texture and intricate details in the old stamps.
