h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

er...updates. thrilling? yes? monosentenses. variation! fool! humourous. really! self-amusment. gibberish? definately.

1) h2g2: well, im lurking a lot more than im posting. fact is, i cant really be bothered to make my presence felt. serious conversations dont need my input. but im still here.

2) life: blah blah same ole same ole. holidays. six weeks of boredom, punctuated by bursts of meeting with uni friends. still paralysingly in love with the same damn girl, who is still going out with the same guy who is still a good friend of mine. i thought i was getting over her, but five days spent in their company along with two other members of our little friendshp group tipped me over the edge, and i felt all weak and lost and and angry with providence etc. you didnt really need to know that. but you got it anyway. the problem is that she is just too damn cute in every possible way. still, its keeping me on my toes, and we are good friends, at least.

3) uni: i got a 2:2. 1 mark off a 2:1 in fact. this may not sound good, but when you consider that i did a total of maybe 8 hours revision work for 9 hours worth of degree level exams, i think i have an excuse. lord only knows how ill manage with my finals. however, this means i have a great summer term of almost no work and lots of fun. i cant drink so much though. it makes me fat. therefore, i propose to have fun sober. right.

4) everything: arent i witty? do you see what i did there? bah. overdrawn. addicted to buying CDs. jobless. workshy. just eaten an entire tin of anchovies. feeling bibulous.

So tell me dear - is this girl that you're head-over-heels for the only girl on campus? Or are you just slow to catch on that there are probably at least one or two others that are just as "cute", witty, charming and not dating one of your friends?

All girls in Oxford are a) beautiful and b) unobtainable. 'Twas the most frustrating year of my life. Was I ever glad to move to Birmingham...

Oh come on Tom, you're a good looking guy, with a great personality (if a little acerbic at times), you're funny and smart and I can't see you having a "dry" time at uni. And after the talks about men and dry spells and university you've given me over the past year if you so much as mention worries of this kind I will come down to Oxford and kick your butt!

(that or possibly wait until the summer when you should be back near London)

Aye 1st year of most things usually sucks.

Well, first year doesn't suck... you just do networking essential to the rest of your stay and get into the swing of things

That's why first year exams don't count...

they do here I think...but it's a completely different system here...first year here is like finishing up your A levels you didn't get to do in school. That's why it's 4 years instead of 3...

tis important to me too. if I dont' do well in 1st year I won't know what to specialise in in 2nd year and then I may end up specialising in something in 3rd and 4th year I hate!

You don't *have* to choose your major here until third year...b/c you're getting your requirements out of the way in the firts 2 years.

I guess that's fair enough. So even degrees are fairly broad?

Well art 1st year you do everything there is, 2nd year you choose 4 things to specialise in and 3rd and 4th you wittle it down to your 2 best topics.

if you're worried about not having a job, go to a temping agency, see if they've got anything...
it's dull, but it's money...
