Passing on a Presidential Announcement from h2g2's newly elected President Hypatia:
There will be an "Official Presidential Miner's Ball and Halloween Masquerade to be held at Alabaster House (and in the Plaza, weather permitting) on October 30, 31, and November 1. A Sadie Hawkins, Ladies Choice Dance will be held at the stroke of midnight on Oct.30. So make sure your costumes include running shoes. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes."
A link to the party thread will be posted later, probably October 29th.
What to wear, what to wear... And what a diary clash, I have an RL President's Dance on Friday. Witches' hats required for that one.
Waz (Minister for Feathered Affairs, currently hunting through wardrobe.)
( PS who is Sadie Hawkins, anyone? </whisper>

Hi Waz! Thanks for the invitation. Sadie Hawkins is a character from the American comic strip 'Li'l' Abner'. She was reputedly so ugly that the only way her influential father could get a husband for her was by instituting a foot race. All the unmarried gals of the town would participate, and so would the bachelors, and wichever bachelor got caught had to marry his captor. This became an annual event in the strip, many intracacies of the plot revolving around how Li'l Abner would manage to evade capture.

Hi Waz,
How wonderful!! A party.
It will be fun to be able to go without my wheelchair = but then I might need it if the "witching brew " is too strong!!
I look forward to greeting our new Chairperson and congratulating her on her promotion.
With much affection
Christiane

Hey Christiane, good to see you.
I'm sure other wheels will be available for all those who succumb to the brew. (We'll commandeer the Vice-Prez's limo if not .)
Five days isn't long to sort out hair dressers and wardrobes.

The Sadie Hawkins Day idea caught on and iin many places the race was transformed into a dance where the ladies invited the guys, instead of the other way around. It was all a bit of fun. I haven't heard of any locally for years.
I'm trying to come up with appropriate prizes for the best costumes.

I really wouldn't mind being asked out to a dance by a nice lady.

I haven't a clue what to wear. Masquerade - I loved the masquerade costumes in Venice, perhaps something like that. They make the most beautiful masks there. Some with lots and lots of feathers...
My feet still hurt from last night, though. Any more dancing and I'll have blisters.

You'd like the location, you say. Silly me.
