First, did anyone think that it was going to be Diggory who died?

Wednesday Addams (sleeping, mostly) Posted Jul 12, 2000
no, I was convinced it was gonna be George.
Do you agree that Ron and Hermione are SOOO made for each other? I mean, the way Ron was getting jealous of Viktor Krum...

I was really hoping that Harry didn't snog Fleur in case her nose turned into a beak...
So has Snape really gone off to try and spy amongst the Death Eaters for the next book then?

I think that was his old job; Voldemort knows he has joined Dumbledore's side now, that comment he made about the missing Death Eaters, something along the lines of "one of our number has left my side forever, he will be killed", but I haven't memorised it (yet!).
Well, do you think Ron and Hermione are made for eachother? Oh, PS: I HATE CHO CHANG!!!

Baldrick Posted Jul 13, 2000
What's Snape going to do then? I think it was Karkaroff who was the 'one who wil be killed'. Also, will Harry's testimony count for anything?
No, I don't think that Ron and Hermione are made for each other, and I believe that the next book may feature a fight between Cho Chang and Hermione - why does H kiss Harry at the end?
Finally, will Harry get his leg over during the rest of the seven? He's starting to run out of time!

I don't think he's legal yet is he!?
Hermione sounds like she went up a bit in the lads ratings after her teeth magically got fixed... I think it could work with Ron but they've got a while to go before they're mature enough for it to mean anything (and not just be really irritating slush reading).
I though Cho was a hotty but after flirting (maybe only slightly) and then agreeing to go to the dance with Cedric I think maybe she is a bit of a b*tch. If she comes crawling to Harry just because Cedric is wormfood he shouldn't totally blow her out.
I can see Harry getting it on with Draco actually... JKR is obviously a very enlightened writer (after all the muggle/houself stuff) so I don't think she'd have any trouble introducing a gay storyline.

Baldrick Posted Jul 14, 2000
He will be legal certainly in 6 and 7 (assuming the wizarding limit is the same as the Muggle one). And what's the 'Cho flirting' thing? With who?

Erm, all males? Sorry, I really truly hate that girl.
I could see the Pansy Parkinson and Draco Malfoy going to the dance together thing from a mile off, I mean, after the way she was simpering over him and his slashed arm in book 3 it was basically inevitable.
I had this theory that Fred and George Weaslet and Lee Jordan were going to go out with Alicia Spinnet, Katie Bell and Angelina Johnson, in that order. After all, why else would there be three boys, three girls? And Fred went to sleep on Alicia's shoulder once...

When Diggory's name was pulled out of the goblet, I realized that he would probably be the one who got killed. As for Ron and Hermione, I'm going to wait and see what happens, because after the first three, all the kids in my class who had read the books were saying that Harry and Hermione were made for each other.

Ron and Hermione - definitely, though not for a while, and with much difficulty along the way. It was clearly being set up this time around.
Cho's just a crush.
Fleur was way too old.
I too had one of the twins down for death, though only for the sake of a name to bet on. I suppose it should have been obvious towards the end, but by that stage I was too caught up in the plot to speculate.
And talking of plots, isn't it wonderful how Rowling has been setting us up for the climax right from the start of the series, with throw away comments and details that suddenly become significant much later? It's been a long, long time since I finished a book and looked forward to the next quite this much.

Well I just finished it and am now eagerly waiting for the fifth one. even after seven hundred pages i still want more and it bugs me to know it's not even out in print yet...
i think ron and harry are going to argue over hermione personally. now that they're realizing she is a girl... moody was a surprise to me! i didn't think he would be the one possessed, although with all that hinting about the imperius curse i knew someone would hav e been under it. i was afraid it was dumbledore.
what's wrong with cho then?

JK totally rules at weaving plotty device-shaped things...
does anyone know if she's even put the paper for the 5th book in the typewriter yet though?
I have to admit to being totally wrong footed this time around and thinking that Barty was Wormtail duh
I think the stuff JK said before the book came out (Harry notices girls, he and Hermione aren't right for each other, someone dies) actually added to the book instead of spoiling it and that's quite cunning... knowing that someone was going to die was like having that fortune telling teacher sitting there the whole time

J K Rowling's actually basically finished all the books, she just always needs to add finishing touches, and occasionally re-write whole parts, when it comes to that particular book's time.
The moment Hermione walked in on the train and Ron took a dislike to her, I thought "OK, those two are DEFINITELY made for each other. Especially if they're gonna follow the rules of fiction." Which the Harry Potter books do.

I'm excited because I'm tutoring a fifth grade boy (10years old) and we are reading the first Harry Potter together. We're going to have fun!

Cho is a bit of a flirt, but I honestly think she went to the ball with Cedric Diggory because he asked her first.
I wasn't too sad when Cedric died, because I was terrified all along it would be Ron! I was especially worried when Ron was kidnapped for the second challenge ("They have taken your Wheezy, sir! Your Wheezy who is giving Dobby his sweater!). After all, the Hermione/Ron thing lends itself to a tragic ending... (yes there definitely is chemistry between those two!)
Why does "a gleam of something like triumph" appear in Dumbledore's eye when Harry describes how Voldemort can touch him now without causing himself pain? (That's page 696 in the American hardback edition.) What exactly does Dumbledore have up his sleeve?

I wasn't too sad about Cedric at first, but that was because I hadn't taken it in, I was too busy waiting to see what happened next, plus I was kind of relieved that it wasn't Fred or George. But when I read it to my sister, it sank in that this nice guy was dead.
Hmm... now that's a mystery... *goes off to re-read that chapter... it's page 604 for us Brits.*
