minichessemouse - Ahoy there me barnacle!

gwenthy, yes we mostly just know each other through the site, but sometimes researchers from similar areas of the world have meet ups where we talk to each other in real life and drink large amounts of alcahol.

It will take you a while to get used to the way the site works, and you will get to know people as you talk to them.

hope that makes sense.

Ah well. There's a thing. Never knew that.

Er. Is that a household tip? Like spitting on boots when you're polishing them?

gwenthy, mostly we just chat here, though as stated above, sometimes people here meet up in real life. But mostly it's just doing what everyone is doing now, and you don't need to do anything more than you've been doing smiley - winkeye

Welcome Runescape!

>> Irv are you sure french toast is not a euphemism , you know like gentleman's relish or french polishing

Much like Ben, I'm not sure what those things are euphemisms for, but engaging in any of them at the restaurant in question would likely violate the local health code, and therefore be unwelcome.

Before I start thinking in euphemisms, I think I'd like to learn her real name, first. I am more amused than anything. I've never had a waitress wink at me before.

Sun, sky, so easy to confuse, especially when your new line manager walks in just as you are typing happily away here and quite obviously not doing anything even remotely work related.

Marv - glad interview went well. Fingers crossed.

I was trying to explain the Atelier the other day, and found I was unable to make perfectly clear that we just... type posts at each other, all in the same thread, ad infinitum, and that it is at the same time a large and handsome suite of rooms above a lab in a crater full of, among many many other things, dancing owls, baby stars, knights, unaus, fairy queens, a President, robots, one rat currently AWOL, a cat, and a thesaurus that is now so very large that it has been moved permanently to the paddock. Who like discussing bed-linen.

Hello to the new people!

I still have the alarm I bought when I went off to college in 1990. It's no frills, just an annoying EEP EEP EEP when it's time to get up. I keep thinking I should get something fancy like Lil's Zen alarm or something with a radio so I can wake up to the soothing sounds of NPR, but then I come to my senses and remember I'd rather spend money on other things so long as the alarm clock is still working perfectly.

Never played WoW. I don't have a whole lot of interest in the game world. Board and card games, on the other hand...deal me in!

I just returned this afternoon from a work-related meeting in another Montana city 200 miles to the east. Halfway home, I stopped at a little Italian grocery in Butte, Montana, known for its wide selection of interesting imported food at very reasonable prices. I bought a pound of buckwheat flour and a packet of saffron. For whatever reason, I've really been craving buckwheat pancakes. As for the saffron, I keep running across it in recipes I have at home, but I've never been able to afford until now.

Ooh, that marmalade sounds good. I would think you could make some yourself, Hippie!

RE: Alarm Clocks

When I was a child, I tried putting the clock across the room. I had one of those giant clocks with the big ringy bells on top, and when it went off at 6:30 am RING RING RING RING RING, I was so sleepy and annoyed that I got up, went across the room, and started whacking it on the table. Which made a sort of RINGbink RINGbink RINGbink. Finally I woke up enough to think about turning off the alarm clock instead of trying to break the darn thing.

Now I have a clock that goes BAMP BAMP BAMP BAMP until I reach up and hit the snooze. Hate it. But I know better than to put it across the room!

I saw this clock in the Hammacher Schlemmer catalog the other day... This is so cute that I might have to get one.

If our bedroom was tidier, this would be a great alarm clock for us...

http://www.hammacher.com/publish/74132.asp?promo=xsells

But then again, it's the same principle as putting the alarm clock across the room. I would most likely break it in annoyance.

Welcome gwyneth and Ringmaster!
