US House of Reps votes either today or tomorrow on a resolution to designate Yucca Mountain, Nevada as sole repository for high-level nuclear waste. Not clear in all the rhetoric and clap-trap is the issue of transportation of the radioactive material through 44 states and the District of Columbia (truck, train, barge).

I have never seen one episode of Twin Peaks. Still. Is there any logical reason why Lawnmower racing was involved?
I keep forgetting to vote, too. I'm going for the Roswell solution, just because.
Good cameras are, of course a thing of beauty. However, Boyfreind packed me off on holiday with his latest gaget, a huge camera with all sorts of fancy applications. It was a real pain in the butt to have to keep hauling it out, and spending minutes focusing and fiddling with it. I was very tempted to hide it and buy one of the disposable whatsits.
I'd probably have got better piccy's too.
It is holiday weekend, isn't it. We're off to the datcha tomorrow. The roof needs fixing...

Yes, Twin Peaks the TV series. I've only seen the first series, but the con was mostly an excuse for stupidity, with a slight Lynchian bent. The lawnmower racing came from David Lynch's film The Straight Story, about a guy who drives a mower across America. They did have panels on Lynch stuff, but I was normally in the bar for those

I am so looking forward to it. Today I picked up some currency from the bank and spent some time making sure I had the originals and photocopies of some documents.

The town that Twin Peaks was filmed in (somewhere in Washington, about five hours from Seattle) holds a Twin Peaks festival every year. It involves several tours to filming locations, a panel with past stars of the show and the opportunity to stay at the hotel (though it is quite expensive). There is also a dinner with cherry pie (of course) for dessert.

I have been staying recently near where The League Of Gentlemen is filmed. They have been filming a new series and seeing some of the shopfronts done up and the crews around the village was interesting. They also have someone who organises fan things in the village.

It nearly was a swiz too, Sol. It was at a Tapas bar and I only had a little bit of omelette and some mineral water. The decision was taken to split the entire bill and that would have cost me about four times more than the value of the food I'd eaten. Fortunately a friend intervened on my behalf (I didn't like to make a fuss) and got me a rebate.
It wasn't even a good omelette. In the past I've always been ill after eating at that bar... I hope I'm luckier today.

You had better fill up on one of Matina's pizzas, Amy.
I am getting heartily sick of wearing winter clothes. The sun is out at the moment, but the wind is quite strong today and cold!

Cold Caer? Its not that bad. A friend from Glasgow was along on this weekend and was finding it odd that people were complaining of being cold outside while he was enjoying the perfect T-Shirt weather.

The only thing to do in situations like that is to eat a lot, Amy. Life was much easier as a student when everybody calculated who owed who drinks down to the nearest half pint...
To rain on your parade, Phill (shadenfreude) a freind of mine came back from Egypt (diving, no less) and said that it was blowing a big gale. Mind you, she said it was nice and warm in the water...

I saw Mullholland Dr. a few weeks ago and I must say that I cannot believe that people actually thought that it was one of the best films of the year. I consider myself as a seasoned movie goer and one who can appreciate the art of a film. Lynch's last offering is without coherance or flow and is an excuse for him to rake in megabucks on the gullibility of the great unwashed.
Please feel free to rebutt.

I wish I could argue that Marv, however I rented Mulholland Drive a few weeks ago and just couldn't bring myself to watch it.... perhaps on some gloomy Sunday in the not so distant future I will buck up the courage to watch it.
I just bought Salmon of Doubt. It cost 24$ at a local bookstore. Barnes and Noble, when are you going to come to Manchester, VT??? We have every other retail store, but no electronic or book stores....
And, drum roll please.....
I finally sold Cumulus for the net gain of 398.86$ Not too shabby- I am quite pleased.

Congrats on your sale Sporky.
I am more than willing to argue anything about the film Mullholland drive with anyone who has seen it and thought it was more than trash.

I seem to remember giving a fairly full review of Mulholland Drive to the Atelier several weeks back. I enjoyed it. I liked the sideways look at Hollywood cliches. And I liked the apparently circular plot that turned out to be more of a mobius ring. It's not a great film, it's not Lynch's best but if you think it's trash you need to watch it again.

Haven't seen Mullholland Drive.
Nice sale Sporky! Are you going to be tempted to sell of other stuff now? I have a friend who is addicted to car boot sales, she makes quite bit out of them too.
My head is now buzzing, having bought two guide books to New England and we shall probably be going the same time as everyone else, last week of Sept/first week Oct. I have a list of the places I *must* go, more than a fortnight's worth, and that's without H's input!
With all the talk of pizza we are off to Pizza Express, where I shall have the usual dilemma of La Reine or Siciliana. There again I might surprise myself and choose something completely different!
