Normally I write factual stuff, but this piece I felt a compulsive need to write. Why I don't know, as this is my first venture into writing fiction
If a few people like it, that's a bonus
Enjoy

good to see you here, welcome to the AWW.
This is a classy piece of writing, and for a first go at fiction... perhaps it's not such a first though, in that the feeling for Herr M in this is not fiction? There's a very strong feeling of that being true in this and that, most of all, is what makes it work. The idea's good, interesting, the wording and the style also. But this is told with real feeling and that gives it that extra.
I particularly liked the 'accompaniment of a different rhythm' bit at the start. You've got to be engaged by a character that walks like that .
Thanks for posting it here.

Seriously good writing, this.
Not what I'd call fiction, though. It's fact told with style and latitude.
I'm biased, but I'd say that the best writing in h2g2 is in this genre. There's a small and select group who admire it, some of whom try their own.
One day, this kind of writing will be the backbone of a re-thought Edited Guide.
Don't worry; you don't have to be an overt revolutionary, or even believe in that particular cause. ou just knocked another brick out of the wall, though, deliberately or not. Well done for that, keep it coming, and see you around.

This is good. I think a sensitive editor would improve it. Some of the sentences run on; the punctuation could be simplified, and there are little redundancies in the writing that could be removed to give a smoother read.
Nice to read something of substance, written with emotional depth.

I liked this. It is intriguing, drawing the reader into the story and keeping us involved. It effectively creates a character and establishes a sense of place.
