Leo Abse, the author of the Private Members Bill which decriminalised homosexuality in the UK, has died.

Without the UK reforms, it's unlikely that reform would have followed quite so soon in my home state. 1974, that was. It appals me to think that this happened in my lifetime...

Yeah ... actually, that decriminalisation reform wasn't UK-wide - it didn't happen in Scotland until 1980 (the year before I was born) and in Northern Ireland until 1982 (when I was actually alive!). Even for England and Wales (when it did happen in 1967) it happened ten years after the Wolfenden Report, where that reform was suggested - which makes Leo Abse even more of a hero for actually getting that reform through Parliament.
