Just out of curiosity which sector of society has been most abusive towards you because of your sexuality?

I'm bisexual and, after having some psychological testing due to being slightly confused, it appears I may have some transgenderist issues.

Anyway, as I said in the 'L Word' thread, personaly, that is other than the sort of general queer hating monotony spewed forth by the religious nutters out there, I have recieved more abuse and crap from lesbians than any other sector of society.

Straight guys I know have never been abusive, they may have felt uncomfortable at first but they tended to get over it. Straight women I know have never seemed to have any problems with it and the same goes with gay guys and bi guys and gals. Christians, I went to a RC college, were always ok with it and I've never known that many Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sihks etc. The only people I've known who have ever been really nasty and/or generaly unpleasant about it were lesbians.


I actually knew one girl for quite a while who I got on with ok. It turns out this was because she thought I was gay as she'd only ever seen me with guys. When I was dating a girl at one point I said something about my girlfriend and I not being allowed in a gay bar in Leeds and why we thought that was and she just looked at me and said "Your girlfriend?" like I'd just run off with her girlfriend and pretty much ignored me from then on. In fact we've barely spoken since. I've also had mucho abuse hurled at me by lesbians at other times in Birmingham, not just when I was with a girl either.

I find this shocking as I kind of expect them to know better than that.

So who in society has been most abusive towards you and are/were you as suprised by this as I was?

Strangely, or not depending how you look at it, the worst I've had is from the older generations and straight men.

I think the older generations are in that mindset though.
Straight men give me grief because they somehow think Im going to steal their girlfriends. Very odd.

Been jumped and beaten up by a group of males, similar age to myself, maybe a few years older.

And lesbians in groups seem to be to completely block out anyone who isn't in their lil group so I dont think its just you. I agree though, you'd think everyone would be on the same side but I've found groups of lesbians to be very cold and determined to shut out new people regardless of their sexuality.

Also, just noticed your name addition..... loving that, got it stuck in my head now! not as addictive as the chicken one though. Rodney Carrington rocks! lol

I've never noticed any discrimination from lesbians, or any other group come to think of it, but that could be because I appear straight and don't really do the gay scene!

I have noticed that the female part of the union's LGBT group tend to be the most vociferous and 'right on', to the detriment of open discourse: the blokes tend to shut up and let them get on with it. Of course, this could just mean that the blokes should stand up for ourselves a bit more!

Yeah but I don't eat chicken...although I do like my women like that...not my men though....and noone else will know what in the hell we're talking about.

Chicken? I know what I mean by that, though whether that's what you and BEG mean by it is a different matter...

lol nah, its an entirely different concept.

But yeah, its how I like my women.... not too much and not too little, just enough to make me grin!!

And less greasy than fried chicken too.

It is an interesting question having lived in NYC for all of my 50 years. Like Roy, I don't appear stereotypically gay or fem. But to find homophobia even in the Big Apple, one doesn't have to travel too far. At work, the more fem waiters are constantly called several expletives in Spanish that translate to butterfly or duck. Until the crackdown on sexual harassment, these poor souls had to endure having their rumps slapped or even dry humped by cooks.
On the wider society, especially my generation, one knows that PDA's (public displays of affection) are frowned upon. Having a gay couple as friends is often common at NYC gatherings. So, on one hand it is almost mainstream, but on the other one knows the boundaries.
Sadly, the biggest abuser of gays and lesbians comes from endless talk shows about gay marriage or parenthood and the loonier religious/ethical gadfly. In an age where every religion and ethnicity is off limits to chiding, guess who takes that place?

Heterosexual women, generally younger heterosexual women.
