The eastern dragon has a beard and a mane. Sounds almost like the twin of the creature described here, the wanambi. Curiouser and curiouser...

It occurs to me that perhaps the myth of the bunjip was devised by some wise aboriginal a very long time ago as a way of protecting scarce water resources from overuse and the contamination that tends to occur when people live right next to their source of water.
Of course, it can't be proven, but its an interesting thought.

I have to agree with that, I've been researching Bunyips a lot recently (as part of my draconic research) and could easily come to the same conclusion.
