You may tire of my questions, but there are some decisions that I am not yet ready to make.

The linked page adds very little to the Entry, so I thought I'd link to the 1970s. Unfortunately, the Entries on the 1970s aren't exactly brilliant. Can I link to the Wiki article, or do you have a better idea?

Replaced linked page with a better one: http://www.seasidehistory.co.uk/gleneagles_hotel_torquay.html

I haven't been able to find more up to date sales figures - perhaps you know someone at the Beeb who can supply the info.

Links to a sad little Entry. Does no one here have the courage to write an Entry worthy of our previous hosts?

Firstly, this is where the tiny BBC link is - a replacement link could be taken from an earlier mention of the BBC.
Secondly, the link from 'a German version of Fawlty Towers' is erroneous, but worse still is the fact that a German version was found to be too expensive to make: please see: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/may/06/television-john-cleese

I think these are being removed. The first link concerns the proposed German version, and could be placed in the relevant paragraph in the text, should you decide to keep it. The second link could be attached to any one of many instances of 'Basil'.

Please advise.

Gnomon - time to move on

Don't worry about asking questions, and don't change anything you're not comfortable changing.

I agree that the linked entry adds nothing, so you can remove it completely, or replace it with anything you like. I've nothing against links to Wikipedia, as long as there aren't too many links to it in the one Entry. (I remember an Entry that had a list of actors in a film, with each of them linked to a Wikipedia article about them. We don't want to encourage that.)

I'll trust you on this.

I don't anybody in the BBC.

Unfortunately, there was quite an elaborate entry on the BBC, but the author kicked up a stink about the BBC selling his work to Not Panicking Ltd (although he had agreed to allow them to do this when he joined the BBC h2g2) so it was deleted from the site. Since this only happened a few weeks ago, nobody has yet written a decent entry on the BBC.

Move links around as you see fit; if you want to rewrite the wording based on knowledge you have, do so. If you want a second opinion first, put the wording you intend to use here and someone (probably me) will look at it.

We were asked to remove the Related BBC Links, and GB and I spent about 2 years taking them out of about 700 entries. I thought we'd got them all. If the link is still worth keeping, you can just move it into the REFERENCES section, in which case it will appear in the right margin, but not anywhere else.

Many thanks for your Guidance, Gnomon. 1975: Link changed to a slightly more informative BBC article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/fawltytowers/ Video Collection sales: I've sent a note to the BBC. "nobody has yet written a decent entry on the BBC" We really ought to have one. A challenge, perhaps? I've removed the BBC link for now. I've lost patience trying to move the link from 'Find out how Basil rated' up to the first sentence, under 'The Cast'. I C&P'd the Guide ML and, after removing the unnecessary wording, I was left with: series - Basil. I must have done something wrong because the system keeps saying "Attribute starts with illegal character". I suppose I really ought to try to learn how to use it... I'll think about the German version etc tomorrow if I get a chance.

Basil You need to add a > after the link, and then move the after 'Basil': Basil

Elf, I realise that you don't know GuideML and as a result are somewhat thrown in at the deep end.

All GuideML tags follow one of two possible patterns:

text

So for a link, as Danny has already explained, you have:

this appears in the entry

Thanks again, guys, for all the help - I guess smiley - online2long isn't conducive to recognising my Guide ML errors.

I've removed the Related BBC Links, and placed (mostly) new ones in the text. If you're not happy with my brief comments on the German version, feel free to alter them.

I have written to BBC Worldwide, asking for an updated figure on DVD sales, but I'm not confident of getting a response. I have also asked them to advise whether the single German episode was ever broadcast (again I'm not expecting a reply) - I'd like to mention it in the Entry.
