VSC: Biased Commentators

My enjoyment of Five Live's coverage of the League One play-off final between Hartlepool and Sheffield Wednesday has been thoroughly spoilt by the biased commentary provided. Steve Claridge as the summariser has been appalling. He was beginning his sentences with "we" when discussing what Sheffield Wednesday ought to be doing on the pitch.

The hyperbole going on is such that there is an assumption that now that Wednesday are going to go straight through and into the Premiership! Fat chance sunshine, the Championship is the toughest league around, and there are going to be lots of tough clubs to beat.

Anyway, well done Piggies smiley - bubbly We'll give you a special welcome down at the Lane next season, and that'll be six easy points for us smiley - tongueout

As I'm sure you know, generally BBC email addresses are [email protected]. The head of Five Live is called Bob Shennan. I hope you find this information useful smiley - ok

I've e-mailed the show with my complaint. The bias knocked the edge off what was an exciting game. It's a real shame.

No doubt it will be even worse tomorrow when West Ham take on Preston smiley - sadface

I think I posted here not too long ago declaiming Steve Claridge as the world's worst football commentator. Clearly BBC have misguidedly got him on a contract.

Don't talk to me about biased commentary : smiley - grr

Gary Newbon (World's worse commentator and summarizer - outright winner 1984 - 1987, 1999, 2001- 2003) After we beat Forest towards the end of the season - "Coventry were punching above their weight beating Forest" OK we know what side he was on.

The coverage of the final game at Highfield Road from Central - no mention of significance, concentrated on could Derby make the playoffs still. There were 3 nice articles on BBC online incidently.

In fact go all the way back to when Billy Wright was at ITV and there coverage of Coventry has been rubbish.

BBC in fairness have been fairly even-handed with City, and the special they did on match of the day when we got relegated was excellent - "There's never been a Premiership league with out them, but there will be next season."
