Lets Introduce Squad Numbers
Old Uncle Zarniwoop Started conversation Oct 14, 2001
Does anybody want to introduce a squad number system. We could each
have a squad number. These squad numbers would not only impress
everybody else on the site, but would have a certain mystical air
about them. We could also hold special events where only people with
squad numbers are allowed !!! No, thats taking it to far.
Anyway, lets introduce squad numbers. I would like number 7 because I like old fashioned wingplay

If you wanted to be VSC member number 7, that's fine by me! I've never actually compiled a membership list, but perhaps I should. As you say, it'd be a good way to draw attention to the page. I'll take squad number 1 - I set up the page, so I'll have the 'keeper's jersey!
The only problem is that whenever I make a change to the page, it gets hidden for a while. Because there are so many links on the page, it would be a pain for the Moderators to have to check them all every time anything was changed. I therefore have an arrangement with the Italics that when I change the page, I send details of any new outside links to Abi. She then checks the links and puts the page back up, but it's hidden until she gets round to it. She is pretty efficient, but even so the page is likely to be hidden for a few hours each time.
That being the case, I think I'll invite applications for membership from known footie fans on h2g2 and put them all up on the page in one go, in about a fortnight, rather than adding them one by one and having the page hidden each time. In the meantime, feel free to flaunt your squad number!

Eusebio - squad number 11 Posted Oct 14, 2001
If number 11 is available, I'd like that shirt (that was Mickey's number at Wrexham) ... if not I'll take anything!!

Well if no-one has taken my old squad number 3 I'll take that then. I was a very good left wing back wearing that number.

Please note that there are two threads running on this apparently hot topic, the other being on the h2g2 Fantasy Football League page!

Steviebab (Squad No. 8) Posted Oct 17, 2001
Could I pick up the number 8 shirt, please? I'd like to drift about midfield, playing the odd killer pass and firing in the occassional thunderbolt from 25 yards. Got my first (and probably last) of the season last Saturday and am still celebrating

You scored a goal? Please report to Valley Parade, Bradford immediately! Your services are sorely needed!
In the meantime, Number 8 is all yours.

No I think your services would be much more appreciated at Sheffield Wednesday.
Motto 'We take your promising youngsters and brand them with bad technique and fininshing. We them keep them at the club for five years, in which time the gain the name mercenery. We then send them out on lone, where, under the influence of a great coach, score tons of goals. He then returns to Hillsbourgh and is immedietly re-branded'
Oh God !!!

*Attempting to gazump DD*
Could I be #13 (my lucky number)? I can play absolutely anywhere, as long as it's not for more than 5 minutes at a time.
I would also like to salute the glorious Trotters for flying the flag of English football with such utter brilliance.
