Can someone please tell me? How I can add Smileys to my page, also in the text when I reply. Sorry I know this is very elementary, but it is a great mystery to me, and I would be greatful for a very simple answer from a kind considerate person. Thank you.

"In plain text (as it is now), just use <<./>smiley</.>> to create smilies (follow the link for more).
When and if you changed to GuideML <SMILEY TYPE="smiley"/> will do the trick. "

And, in plain text, some of the smileys use the original smiley text forms anyway. Eg:
: - )
: - (
without the spaces.

Thank you for your reply, it was very helpful I think, maybe later it will make more sense. But anyway it is much appreciated that you even took the time to reply and I am very grateful. Allaina

If that is confusing as well, it is a quote from the 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' "

Allaina, I think if I'd come across a 2legs* post when I was a newby I'd have scarpered pronto! Well done for sticking around.

Traveller in Time not surprised by the comments all around
"This is more like the normal reaction on a new thread, sometimes it only takes an hour to have a massive party welcoming the new Researcher

Yeah, but most newby threads avoid the misfortune of being crashed by 2legs and myself.
Still, there's much to be said for diving in at the deep end!

Thank you for you message, it was very kind and encouraging of you. I've just seen your space, I am very impressed and envious, I don't think I have enough brain power to even to begin to understand how you got it all on there, it's great. I can design on paper as an Artist I am very creative, but limited when it comes to the inside of pc software. It was so clever how my name was even on your space it was a real suprise. I am going to visit your space again when I have a week to spare to just look at it properly, only joking, you must do this for a living that's the only explanation I can think of for you to design such an attractive space. It was a pleasure to have contact with you, you seem to be a charming young man. Best Wishes

You don't have to be a genius to work up an impressive personal space Allaina
Although it is a little daunting changing from a text version to a formatted Guide Mark-up Language (GML) version, there are many helpful sources of information in the Guide and of course you can just ask...
Oncve you have created a basic GML space it is fairly simple to tack on nice bits you've seen in other researcher's spaces by viewing the GMl for their space and copying it (good netiquette to ask first, and thank them for the inspiration). To see the GML behind someone's space instead of the address ending U219930, change it to testuserpage219930
If you do look at my space I have to confess I don't understand all of it myself There are a couple of links I've listed that give instructions on how to achieve some effects. Happy space-creation

GiudeML is pretty straightforward, though a bit daunting at first. It's a great way to get your head around this sort of thing, and makes a good introduction to HTML. Some of the commands and stuff (I think those in the know call them 'syntax') are different but it's a good way to break the ice, so to speak.
