Do you mean unsubscribe from a particular h2g2 forum, or do you just not want anything to do with us any more?
If it's the latter, there's nothing you can do to delete your account. Once a Researcher opens an h2g2 account, it's *never* deleted. Even accounts belonging to people who have been banned for life are still visible. It's something to do with leaving broken links and conversations throughout the site if an account is erased.
If you want nothing to do with h2g2 any more, simply don't come here any more. It's kind of like a shop you don't visit any more, for whatever reason. The shop's still there but now you just don't go in.
And if in 10 years you decide that you want to come back (and as long as you can remember your login password), your account will still be here waiting for you

Hi Pattycakes. is there any particular reason you wish to leave us? Or where you just checking out of interest?
Of course if it is just not your thing then I understand, it's just we hate to lose a researcher

Of course, I am not all supportive of pattycakes disappearing totally from the site.
But I can see the comedy potential in a 'Baker's Man' cult.

Hurray, your back!!! 'is it normal', no, not at all I guess I should explaine...... Long, long ago, someone registered on H2G2, with the username of 'nighthoover', and posted one thing, in the 'ask h2G2' place, the question was 'cancil', in which they asked how they could cancil their account. In response to this question, they were informed, that it is impossible to close the account, but that if you just leave it, nothing happens... So, that is what this person, calling themselves 'nighthoover' would have seemed to have done Unfortunately, or fortunately, dpending on how you view it, the conversation they had started; 'cancil', grew, and grew, and grew into something rather bizzare And, before a year was out, it had developed in to a 'cult' following, of 'nighthooverites' (I'm nighthoover high priest), who search for 'the prophet' 'nighthoover', and express the 'percieved' words of 'nighthoover its very difficult to explaine this it really is quite bizzare But, and besides which, we (the community), do hate to see people leave; especially if they haven't been on the site long, as, certainly for me, it took me many months to get to grips with the site, and 'vegin' understanding the place; it is very big, and many many areas, one of which will be generally, to the taste of any given individual... some people on here, mainly have personal conversations with other people on the site (although anyone on the site can see any conversation), whilst others play word games, build up journal entrys, cataloguing their life, or whilst others, carry on strange 'cults' devoted to a person called 'nighthoover plus, of course, there is always 'ask H2G2 and 'how do i', where anything* can be asked... from how to cook a certain cut of meet, the best recipe for king prawns, or how education works in one country or another, or, 'what music am I listening to now', and many many other threads It might be worth you staying round a bit longer, just to try get the feel for the site; have you written anything on your 'personal space' yet?; once you have, you'l generally be spotted by one of our 'ACEs' , who will welcome you, semi-officially, and give you help on the site... Please
stay

Marjin, After a long time of procrastination back lurking Posted May 29, 2003
Pattycakes,
as you know by now, the only way to leave is never post anymore.
I hope you don't make that decision too fast, look around for some time without posting(we call that 'lurking') or post somewhere if you feel the need and in a few weeks make up your mind.
And remember, this site is more like an old-fashioned bulletin board where you sometimes have to wait days for an answer, instead of a chat-site where you expect immediate reactions.
Hope you decide to stay (if only to keep 2legs quiet)

Marjin's right pattycakes, you don't have to join in every conversation that you see, plase spend some time looking around the site. Perhaps you've got a real life interest you could write an article on for the edited guide or perhaps you live in a place that has an interesting history?
Quite apart from the sheer madness that we all seem to succumb to at times, your fellow researchers are very supportive if you have a problem or need advice. I've asked questions on things as diverse as how to assemble a flat-pack computer desk, got tips on using various programmes and even told someone how to make a fancy dress out of a dustbin liner and I've personally found it fascinating to exchange information about a multitude of topics with people from other countries/cultures.
Please stay a while longer, have a and some .
