No, no, I was interested. It's just I didn't know what to say and the "must answer all postings" compulsion got the better of me smiley - winkeye

Nice to know I'm not the only slave to forums. Well, I suppose there *have* to be people like that, otherwise the forums (or fora *smug*) would move i n c r e d i b l y s l o w l y . . .

Tell me why I have to be a Powerslave
I don't wanna die, I'm a god why can't I live on?
When the life giver dies, all around is laid waste
I'll live my last hour a slave to the power of death

FREAKS OF THE WORLD UNITE!

I just found out a hot tip - when you go to the first page of a long thread, type "&latest=1" on the end of the URL in the address bar, then press return - it takes you directly to the last page!

It works, too! That's how I got here without getting out of breath... smiley - smiley

Forgive me for saying so, but isn't giving H2G2 a presidency undermining what it's all about?

H2G2 is such a massive sprawling community that to give it a president would be impossible. It's like trying to nail it down into a specific demographic, and that (despite what advertisers might think) is impossible.
One of the best things about H2G2 (apart from the fact that no-one is rude) is it's complete ... undefinability. Meaning you can't define it. Such a community *cannot* have a President which properly reprsents them. Sorry but that's just the way it is.
If you were running for President of anything else, Cheese, I'd support you ... hell, China could do with livening up a bit! smiley - winkeye

So, that's my twopence worth.

Afraid I'm gonna have to agree with Chrome here Cheese. The point of h2g2 is that we're all equals- whether ACE, subbie or researcher.
Ok, enough of the nobility- I'd just being forced to choose between friends, and I'm not doing that one smiley - winkeye

That didn't stop us having an elected Mayor of London last year, so why are you against an elected President of America this year? smiley - winkeye

Well, I'm not sure whether Mark Moxon or Douglas Adams would try to fix the elections in such an astonishingly barefaced way as Tony did in the London elections.

Yeah, Cheese, I did go OTT a bit in my last posting, but most of the stuff in it still stands (ie. h2g2 impossible to define, all that jazz)

Anyway, under whose authority would a president be elected? Unless it was publicised on the front page, there'd only be a turnout of about 5%, I bet. Which would be undemocratic. That wouldn't be right.

I was just assuming the "President of H2G2" would be in the same nature as Zaphod as "Galactic President", i.e. a mechanism for making the biggest egomaniac think they were doing something useful, while keeping them out of our way... In that respect, I support it all the way! smiley - bigeyes
