Tweetie - two points. One, it only works on a PC - if you're on a Mac, forget it... (Yes, modern Mac keyboards *do* have an "ALT" key...)
Point two, you need to hold the ALT key down while typing the numbers on the number pad at the right side of your keyboard - if you use the numbers above the "typewriter" bit, it just plain doesn't work... When you let go of the ALT key after typing the code, the character will appear.

i'm named after a prison!!! i've just realised!!! terri holloway - holloway prison!! how cool is that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow. i'm happy now.
