HI, I am new to H2G2, and I've only just found your page. erm, I'm sort of nervous here, (I notice that no-one has spoken for two weeks)
If I recomend a book to the group, can I get a recomendation in return?
I recomend
'Angry White Pyjamas' by Robert Twigger, It is a medium length story (which we are told is true) about Rob, who is living in Japan when he realises that he is not and never has been truely in shape. He joins a traditional dojo and trains in the art of Aikido (Pronounced eye-key-do) with the japanese riot police. On the basest level, it is a good, well written book. It is not even near being a classic, but it is very entertaining. On a deeper level, it is a good look at how something can take over ones life, during the book, the author begins to hate the course, but still cannot give it up. Although this preview may in fact put people off reading the book, I do ask you all to give it a go. I have lent my copy to about ten people, some who do read and some who read one book every two years or so (How?!?! I couldn't live without reading for that long)

Now what can you recomend to me?
I am wary of Authors I have not read about before, but I would like to read a good sci-fi or fantasy saga, nice and long, which is good enough to take over my life for a month or so. (i have already read LOTR, Assimov and Dune)
(that last paragraph sounds really demanding doesn't it?-Sorry)
Thank you

Hi there Hagakure and welcome smiley - cheers to H2G2. Hope you're looking round, meeting people and generally having a good time here.
This Book Nook used to be a very active place but interest seems to have dropped off over the last few months. Shame smiley - sadface

Still, interesting recommendation you've given there, not something I've heard of but a book about hobbies taking over your life seems quite appropriate for this very addictive site smiley - winkeye

If you're after a good, LONG, sci-fi sage I'd recommend Peter Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy starting with the Reality Dysfunction. Interesting ideas, huge galaxy spanning space opera, future dystopia, humanity triumphing over itself as its own worst enemy. Very good but very, very long. The first couple of hundred pages are a bit difficult with so many charaters and concepts to introduce but if you perservere and you like it, be prepared for each book of the trilogy taking you over for a month or more.
Enjoy
MC
