I like this one a lot
quirky, factual, something you never think about until you read an entry like this.

I'm very sorry, but I'm afraid that this one really doesn't meet our requirements for the Edited Guide as it is right now.
For a start, each different type of VCR / DVD player has different types of lighting, so an entry designed to hide a light becomes somewhat irrelevant if there's no standardisation. Secondly, even despite the warning not to block ventilation holes, sticking a smelly old sock over the front of a piece of electrical equipment strikes me as being both a) potentially rather malodorous, and b) pretty silly kind of behaviour.
In fact, none of the VCRs, DVDs or any other kind of electrical equipment that I've ever owned (and trust me, I've owned a HELL of a lot of them!) have ever had such a bright light on them that it necessitated the use of a piece of soiled clothing to block it out.
So, although this is, by the broadest definition, a 'factual entry', it's really not the kind of entry that we're looking to see in the EG at the moment. However, as the style of writing is very enjoyable indeed, I'd suggest that perhaps the Post or the Underguide might like to consider it.
Many thanks,
Paully

Disappointed that this is turned down on the grounds of being "pretty silly kind of behaviour" (among other things). What's that got to do with anything?
Still, the Eds have spoken.

Aww. And this was looking so good, too. But this sentence:
the best case scenario is a sock found far under your bed next to a half, empty half a year, old but still not moldy, bag of flaming-hot-cheetoes.
could do with comma adjustment. Like
the best case scenario is a sock found far under your bed next to a half empty, half a year old but still not moldy, bag of flaming-hot cheetoes.

I'm just posting to let you know that *someone's* watching! Not much to say beyond that.
Oh yeah - Gaffa tape successfully applied.
