If you need to very quickly calculate pi to a few decimal places, you can use 22/7 to two significant decimal places.

Another fine approximation can be obtain by taking the first three odd digits and doubling them, like so:
1 1 3 3 5 5
Then, put the last three over the first:
355 / 113
This gives 3.14159..., six accurate decimals of pi.

I always use the mnemonic "how I wish I could remember pi" - counting the number of digits in each word gives: "3 1 4 1 5 8 2".
