Discovery of Fire is Man's second discovery

I had a philosophy professor in college who said man's first discovery was not fire and his greastest invention was not the wheel. Rather it was the discovery of certain plants and liquids that produced certain effects on man's mental abilities (drugs and alcohol) which led man to feel braver and smarter than he normally was. This probably led man to think fire was cool and man rolling things down hills just to see what happens.
His proof was every weekend at a college campus where students discovering alcohol led them to playing with fire and led them to rolling things down a hill for no particular reason other than just because. That is also the reason that we do not use mattresses as wheels since they don't roll very where down hills - but the do slide.
