Any kid of mine is going to hate me....

I just realized that I have some of the best "When I Was Your Age" stories in the making.

I realized it this evening as I was loading up a van with trash bags, because I have to take out the trash, and the dumpster is just that far away. And it was snowing. With no heater in the vehicle to speak of.

And that's just one of 'em. When I was your age, I didn't use those MP5 files, I didn't even use MP3s. My data files were uncompressed, and I liked 'em that way!

Yeah, and when I was your age, my phone, computer, tv and stereo were all ~separate~ devices!

Yeah, yeah, that's it. And when I was your age, they didn't have any of these silly 'sensy' movies; if we wanted to have a full tactile experience, we had to do it ourselves...or with somebody.

I remember .wav music files... Man, my dad was pissed when he saw how much disk space they took up... smiley - laugh

Titania (gone for lunch)

When I was your age, we didn't have PCs or TV game consoles - and the only two TV channels we had could only be seen on a black&white TV, so there!smiley - tongueout

You know, SumGuy, we may be two of the only people our age who remember DOS.

*raises hand*

I had an IBM PC for a while. With two floppy disk drives. No harddrive, at all. I wish I still had my Inform game, tho... that and Rogue were so much fun on that monochrome toaster smiley - biggrin

Do you mean "Inform" or "Infocom"? Infocom dissolved in the early nineties, and Inform is something smaller that exists on the Internet.

I remember practicing typing up essays in DOS, many years ago. We used to have apple computers, too, and we did this odd thing where you typed in coordinates and it made colored lines on the screen. I can't for the life of me remember what *that* was about. This would have been the early nineties, when I was about 8...

Reminds me of when I first started playing with BASIC.

Oh boy!
BASIC...now that's a language for the average simpleton.
I personally would rather code in Fortran then go threw the grueling processes of typing up arrary after array in BASIC. Otherwise, it was a good language to begin at...very easy.

Is that what I'm remembering? Every time I see the windows screensaver with the lines, I remember that.

But I'll be buggered if I can remember any practical application of that knowledge. smiley - erm

You're just out of practice. If it WAS BASIC,....it might not be, of course, but if it WAS,....then all it'd take is a little more practice to get into it again.

I was just saying that I did things like that with BASIC and QBASIC, but you can do similar things in any number of languages.
