Happy Affy Day, Everyone

In just a few hours, I'll be able to say that I've been alive for a good two decades, plus one year. Now that legal drinking age is upon me, I have several important plans that revolve around not drinking. I believe the people who went to the Hillbilly Meet heard my plans to go to a bar, slap my driver's license down, and order a soda. I'm not convinced that I'll actually do that, though. I mean, there's so much I *could* do today that making a trip to a bar to order a soda, something I could easily do at any restaurant, seems a bit unnecessary.

Though to be honest, what I'll do with the day puzzles me. It's Saturday, yes, but today's Ninja Turtles episode is 1) Half-way over, and 2) a Rerun that I only like because there are some not-so-subtle references to Rocksteady and Bebop from the previous show (non-Turtle fans won't have a clue why that's cool to me, but trust me: it is.)

And while I enjoy playing video games, it's not the type of thing that I do with birthdays. I normally don't watch TV on my birthday, to be honest. Probably why I'm not watching the Turtles very slavishly just now. But then again, just being on the Internet is something of an aberration. (It's my birthday, I can spell "aberration" however I want to. I'll also be spelling "fish" as "ghoti," just try to stop me.)

I'm sure I'll be getting presents, and while I doubt I'll get as many as I did, say, a decade ago, I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever it is enough to provide something of a diversion. But even so: what to do?!

At the moment, my plan is to go see Dead Man's Chest at the theater again. Not as good as the original Pirates of the Carribean (which will be spelled how I deem appropriate), but compared to the other popcorn flicks out there it's still superb. Plus, not everyone in my family's seen it yet, so this is a good chance to pull them out to the movie.

If I still wind up with nothing to do, I'll go to bed early. I bought a new book yesterday (a "Star Trek" book about a Klingon ship called the IKS Gorkon. They apparently seek out new life, and new civilizations....then they conquer them.smiley - biggrin Oh, those wacky Klingons.), so I'll read myself to sleep with that.

Oh, but before I go, here's my annual birthday present to you all: a look at my favorite webcomics for the day!

http://www.sluggy.com is doing a one-shot for today (as they do most Saturdays), so it's a good strip for the new initiate to read. I've gotta make reservations for that skull.

www.qwantz.com is almost ALWAYS a good read. Not so much today, but I'm willing to gamble that Monday's will be superb.

http://www.schlockmercenary.com is in the middle of a light-hearted storyline (by their standards, mind you. The story involves the main characters blowing up a building for profit.)

www.shortpacked.com is a fun strip today. EVERY nerdy website out there has one of those guys who knows an "Awesome Inside Source," and Dave Willis' take on their mentality is spot on correct today (as a side note, I used to attend church with that guy. He was in high school, I was in elementary school. No way he remembers me, but that doesn't prevent me from name dropping one of the coolest webcomic artists on the Internet.)

Aaaaaaand, what to leave you with...hmmm... how about http://www.giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP/ootscript for the RPG enthusiasts? Yes, that'll do nicely.

Anyway, see you next year everyone. Inflatible Squids, on the house (or "howse", as it will be spelled for the next 14.5 hours.)

*Munches squids on the howse while enjoying comics. Wonders whether squid is slang for something else than a 10 armed marine creature.*

Congrats smiley - bubbly (alcoholfree if you prefer), smiley - chocsmiley - cake and smiley - gift -> a free pass for a year to the cinemas and films of your choice.

Here are wishes for a nice day. In Denmark it is sunny, no wind and 25C/79F.

Maybe don't do anything or just wander around your homeplace looking at it with new eyes.

Thanks everyone, it was a great day. The Pirates movie was even better than it was the first time, plus I received more loot than I thought probable. A Nintendo DS with New Super Mario Bros., for one thing.smiley - smiley Oh, and the first seasons of Futurama and the Batman Animated Series (surprisingly, that show is Just As Good As I Remember. Most cartoons from when I was younger aren't actually very good, but this one is still well animated, well written, and well acted. My eyes literally watered up in the "It's Never Too Late" episode featuring an old gangster.)
