It's kinda sad...
Tomorrow's the last workshop we're having in my poetry class.
It's the end of an era... I won't have to have a nice poem to bring to class every week anymore.
This is the twelfth week. And all that obligation to produce has really been GREAT for me... I examine everything closer, including myself.
I could easily force myself to share my poetry to friends via email every week. There is that. But it's not the same as workshopping at all.
I could ACTUALLY look into that writing thingy offered by my beloved BBCi...
I could also form a workshop group with my friends from the class.
I can make myself produce a poem every week.
School's almost out!!! And I am not going back... I'm graduating (for real this time). It's not the same as last semester. I feel ready for it this time. I feel more unattached to the school and to Denver (Surprising!!!) and to the people I know there. I don't feel like I have to stay in order to feel valued...
I'm making myself visit the career center on campus. See what I can actually do with my degree and experience.
OH!!!
I might contribute a few articles to "The Antarctic Sun" starting about a year from now... I'll have to get a job working in Antarctica first. The bartending idea's not good: it's a gig that's in addition to nine hours doing something else, and you have to know the right people...
So I could be a shuttle bus driver... or an escort at the air strip... Because there are three years' worth of journalists waiting to write for "The Antarctic Sun" and the woman hiring wants staff to have two years of experience at a daily.
There's SOME journalist in me... but I suspect a daily might do me in a bit (still better than retail... ).
So. I have a modern stanza and a two-page poem ready to go for tomorrow... I gotta keep this poetry thang alive...

Why Antarctica...!!??
Well, see... I'm really lucky... I had three things on my list of things to do before I die: Visit New Zealand, visit England, publish a book.
Two out of three completed, I decided a couple of years ago that I had to be FAR more ambitious. And FAR more ambitious, I was. The one item that really stuck for me on the new list was: Touch down on all seven continents.
Antarctica's going to be the toughest. Not many people get there, unless they have a LOAD of money or find w*rk there...

A poem
Penguins skitter on the ice,
Singing "Antarctica's nice:
Fishies here, fishies there.
Livin' large, without a care."

I would love to go to Antarctica. Cold, windy, isolated, lonely and remote - just my cup of tea. Much better than those ghastly hot places that people seem to like to visit.

The work involves doing geological things (which is odd considering most of its under half a mile of ice)

It's oft been my desire,
That when I do retire,
'Twill be some cozy habitat
Of tropics, waves, and this and that,
But with the icecaps shrinking,
It's got me kind of thinking
That I can stay put where I am.
I can be happy as a clam
Within my newly warm estate.
Oh, boy, I simply cannot wait
For global warming to arrive,
When palms upon my lawn do thrive.
