I'm admitting my bias up front - I worked on various newspapers for the past decade before crossing over to the dark side (public relations).

That disclaimer noted...

Every good community needs a newspaper, and in the near future h2g2 will have two....

Vegiman is planning on starting up a community newspaper here in h2g2. And TV's Frink is putting together a newsletter for his softball team "The Rambling Misfits" and his club "Frink's Drinks".

When these would-be publishers get their acts together, maybe they could get an advert somewhere.

Oh, I guess I just took care of that, didn't I?

Organisational details etc are still being thashed out - At this time 6 researchers have joined the scheme and a 200mb Web Site is in the process of being programmed as a backup to the h2g2 POST page at:

Not a lot there yet but requests from various reseachers are already coming in.

The Team is Male Heavy at this time and I am looking around for a female touch and will be contacting a few selected reseachers over the weekend.

Although not finalised the POST will offer adverting space for h2g2 events. etc offer web space for images to be use on h2g2 pages

Critique Idea - It will be a place where many reseachers can report on whats going on in h2g2 : ask for advertising space : Look up Whats On : ask for their pages to be review or proof read - Web Space for images to be posted to - Art searched for and designed to enhance reseachers pages - In fact be everything an interactive newspaper would be PLUS MORE.

Now that Jim Lynn has confirmed that more than one researcher may use the POST home page at the same time - it will not be long before all the above will be available - A lot of neater stuff to follow - Still early stages and until the team has been fully formed I can only speak for myself on how I would like it to proceed. As I am only one voice of many.

I will be asking for roving reporters to report back on anything of interest going on in h2g2, the editorial staff will also be invited to contribute. So many Ideas going on I can't see it being fully up and running before December although in a small way it will start in the next few days.

I will email you as and when things start to happen - If you find anything contentous please email me and it will be sorted.

Thanks I am trying - its slow though cos I am not able to put the time in I would like if I was working full time on it. It'll get there, but more slowly than first anticipated.

Hey, I like the sound of this. SOmewhat selfishly, I would like to be able to use this space for images that I'd like on my home page. Being on a network here at work, there's no other way I can see to make files on my server available to h2g2's, so this could be the answer! But selfish stuff aside, it would be good to have an interactive space that everybody gets into the habit of looking at whenever they log in. The place is getting so big I'm beginning to feel dwarfed by it, so it would be good to have something that lets us all know what everybody's up to.

This is a really great project which I/we will support as much as we can.. Great stuff Vegiman and team!

Well done to all involved...We really appreciate your efforts in organising something as complex as this

Still working on it and you are welcome to pop over and request space now - then as soon as it is available you will be the first on the list. Also we are looking for people to write articles for the POST on what you find in and around h2g2 to help newbies and older researchers alike. You input is welcome.
