A Conversation for The Best Beer Ever

Haze: Plan C seems to be working

A few of my favourites are:
Chimay Blue Cap, 9% but you cant taste it. A vintage beer (will actually get better over time) brewed by trappist monks. My first taste I lolled the tongue out and did the Homer Simpson 'glgllglgllgllglg'.
Boags Strongarm, A tasmanian beer that's cheap, not a thrilling taste, but pleasant, and you can't STOP drinking them on hot days.

Also, WRT your article on beer, I think it's worth mentioning that germans make beer like they make cars and don't make conversation, ie very well. There is also the german purity law of 15-something that states that no additives are allowed to be put into any german beer. I can get back to you on the exact year if you like.

Cheers!

Cropton beers are excellent - liquid food and so meaty you can almost chew them.

Now there's an idea! I've heard of chilli beer, honey beer, tequila beer, bourbon beer and a few others I've forgotten on purpose. How about Bacon beer? It'd save eating dodgy salted snacks to keep the thirst going ( smiley - winkeye like it ever stops), no fatty chunks though.

There was a beer done over here for a while that was flavoured with Cadbury's chocolate. Yuk!! Now Galaxy flavoured - that'd be different!

I think the way to go on that one'd be to have beer flavoured candy. Jelly beerbies.

1516 for the German Purity Laws.
Did you know that virtually every brewery in Germany breaks them?
The Purity Laws state that the only ingrediants to go into beer are
1) Water
2) Malt
3) Hops

They weren't too hot on microbiology back in the 16th century so they didn't know anything about yeast. So, technically any brewery in Germany that adds yeast to its' beer is breaking the law!

That and other fascinating beer facts will be available in the forthcoming BEER, The definitive article. (Hopefully)

Beer flavoured sweets (candy) I could go for, vodka jelly is already one of my favourite foods.

I was shocked to learn that they can. It's hard to get hold of and is almost never exported, but the one I have tried (don't ask me what it's called as I can't remember) was really good.

Ever had 'Old Fart'? Reminiscent of sweaty socks put away years ago and recently rediscovered.

Merrimans Old Fart? Yeah, a few times. The best was at a barbeque picnic in a huge garden in a village on the outskirts of Leicester. Lovely sunny day, lovely cold beer.

The best beer I have ever tasted is possibly Abbot Ale when it's cool and hand-pulled by a young, but talented, barmaid with a very good grip. She was an expert at obtaining good, creamy head(smiley - winkeye), as well as being young enough (for me, that means U-21) to take an interest in...

Also, sorry for the spam, but I've just spent a whole ten seconds making a page where people can leave their intended submissions to the guide for comment or suggestion. It's not meant to be an alternative to the Fun Run, just a big disorganised heap. Please read and comment on some, or leave your own pages you wish read in the forum provided.

Don't worry about the interuption in services, just don't tell the Powers That Be. A reciprical mention over at your disorganised heap, pointing people over here to leave their views would be nice though.

If I can just drag us back to a highly important subject here, what about bottled beers? What are your takes on those? Me, I'm a really big fan (for mass drinking purposes) something lighter, like those from the Wytchwood brewery. However, for one-off enjoyment, I like Fuller's 1845.smiley - smiley

There's absolutely nothing wrong with bottled beers, as long as they are good ones.

Yes, bottled beers can be great, if we're talking specialist brews. Of the ones I've had best is Hens Tooth and worst is Old Speckled Hen. An odd coincidence.
