Union of the Crowns

I note that this year is the 400th anniversary of the Union of the Crowns. There doesn't appear to be an edited article on this or James VI and I so, possibly next week when I am up in Glasgow without any of my toys to play with, I could look into writing one. Hmmmm.

The actual anniversary was yesterday. You'd think that there might have been some mentions of it about.

The Scottish Office launched a website. I was intending to rip it off terribly. Anyhoo, he didn't get crowned until July, so plenty of time to get this pesky "event" off of the news and allow it some decent airtime.

I haven't seen anything about it either, but perhaps it is not PC to mark such an occasion these days with devolution and all that.

Not PC?
All the more reason to mark it!!

I think the Scottish Labour Party wants to mark it, to promote the Union, while other sections would rather not, hence the low key approach. Possibly its peaceful ending of a long period of conflict is not very welcome at the moment either.

I must remember to watch that tv programme on the events page.

It might only be on in Scotland, not sure. ... Yep, some nonsense about owning a farm in France on instead down here.

As it looks like Labour are going to suffer in the elections due to events I'm not going to dream of discussing here I doubt they want to push this too much. Besides, at the moment who'd notice anyway?
Now when they come to celebrate the Union of the Parliaments, that's gonna be a major bunfight. Come to think of it, a farm in France sounds like a good idea...

Not showing any programs about farms in France over here, needless to say.

Well, I've doen a first draft, A1019062 if anyone fancies giving it the once over before I bung it in Peer Review. It feels a bit rushed and confused at the moment, for starters. Also, I expected to get a lot more links into it, but there is a distinct dearth of articles on the Tudors and Stewarts. Mayhap I'll try to do something about that, after this one, unless anyone else feels like it.
