Where to get help w/a specific entry?
kaspit Started conversation May 25, 2005
Hello. Brand new here.
1. General: Where/how can I get GuideML help on my entry from a Person?
2. Specific: My entry shows up fine in Preview but keeps coming up w/codes in text after updating. What do I need to do?
Thanks,
kaspit (entry "Quicksilver..."

You need to change the default style 'plain text' to 'GuideML' and then click on the Change style button.
If you're completely new to GuideML, you might find this entry useful: A690518

TiT - I think kaspit is referring to this entry: A4113785
kaspit - this is the right place to get help from not only one but probably several persons!

Hi again. Thanks, and that is the correct link to my article.
However, I did try changing to GuideML (many times).
In fact, it seems like Traveller in Time (see post above) looked at the entry and didn't see a problem But for me, it comes up with all the coding. E.g., when I click on that link. (How does it look to you?)
Thanks, pls advise further... kaspit

Traveller in Time used to being fooled by the parser
"Just what I did, I only used preview to test it, now submitted it as an entry.
< A4115945 > the only thing to do was select GuideML
( ) Plain text (x) GuideML [ Change Style ]
and then press the change button. "

I see all the coding too.
I seem to remember someone having had this kind of problem before - I'll see if I can dig up something...

The mistake most people with this problem seem to have made is to think that merely clicking on the radio button for GuideML makes the actual change to GuideML. It doesn't. Neither will pressing the general save article button (names may vary between skins) make the change. You have to choose the GuideML radio option *and* then press the nearby change/switch button to act on that choice (and then after that save the article!). This change/switch button is *not* the same button as the general article save button.

Traveller in Time _not_ impressed by error warnings of the parser
"Most times it is an ampersand & failing to be parsed (use & instead) or the odd < floating in the text (use < instead).
On very rare occasions I see mixed up nesting

This entry was perfect to start with, the only thing I can imagine is something strange with the redirection of the browser pages. "

Hi. Sounds like I may have eventually entered the codes ok, it sure was not easy doing so.
However, is my page now subject to a disciplinary action or is moderation a form of help?
When I clicked on moderation, I noticed the rule about foreign language. I've just posted a glossary to the most of the non-English terms I've used. But clearly other pages are transliterating Latin, Greek and other languages, too?
Thanks. Mercuriously,
kaspit

No you won't be subject to moderation don't worry. It's more if you're posting whole paragraphs etc that look as if they might be dodgy...
Oh and I was accidently looking at TiT's version...which is fine...your version is still in coding

Thanks SEF, I had indeed checked GuideML and then gone straight to Update.
(Maybe the instructions need to be more explicit, less intuitive, for folks like me?)
Apologies and thanks to all for your feedback.
