Uppercase vs Lowercase

gnomon and I have exchanged a message or two about HTML tags being in lowercase (by convention) and GuideML tags being in uppercase (by necessity - for Pliny at least).
I read these pages fairly carefully and do have an idea of how these things work and I got it wrong. The current GuideML clinic text IS correct but I would have a hard time picking a HMTL4 tag from GuideML at the best of times. For a newby it would be sheer luck.
Should we just tell everybody that the site is case sensitive and we should use lowercase exclusively?
