Another *BUMP*, and a bit of an update...
The group has now gone "invitation only", so you need to request an invitation to join. If all has gone to plan I hope I have set it up so that any of the existing members can invite you, not just me, but I suspect I may have to authorise new members.
So, if you just arrived here, go and apply to join up there (Google Groups; look back a few posts for details) and I'll authorise you as soon as possible.
The upside is that we get to discuss all the super-sexy secret stuff.

As an aside, we think we've got the noesis permissions fixed. If you posted your name above, and you're logged in to noesis, you should now be able to follow this link: http://forum.noesify.com/index.php?/topic/1568-gurus/
If you can, post a "hello" to let us know you got in.

Hi astrolog, and others... There has been a bit of an upheaval on the Gurus front, some might even say a schism.
Yesterday afternoon it was decided by Noesis that any Gurus who would have access to other users' personal details and emails (i.e. the group helping out with the migration) would have to prove their real-life identity before being allowed to continue.
Now, I know that a lot of you out there prefer to maintain a semblance of anonymity, so basically it breaks down thus: if you want to stay anonymous you can still become a Guru and help people out on-site. In fact that's what the Guru scheme was originally, so nobody's losing out. But if you don't mind proving your RL identity to Noesis (they use a third-party service who basically verify a number off your driving license or passport; it's free) you can join the special migration team, which is a bit like being a Navy Seal, except we look more like dolphins.
If you're involved in the migration you'll already have had an email about this. If you're just joining up (Hi again, astrolog!) can you please make your preferences known so we know which group to put you in. Ta.

No, you just need to draw their attention to the fact you have already ID'd yourself. It's the same system as the ACEs use.

astrolog, if you log into the Noesis forums you should now be able to see the Guru/Tech forums. Post a note of your email in there and I'll arrange for you to get an invite for the Google group. We'll figure out all the "identity" stuff then, if necessary.

The proving your ID mean that Aly Larholm, (and ONLY Aly Larholm) is told
1) that you have proven your identity to NetIDme
2) your first name, age, gender, and location
Here is what she says about it:
>>In the event of us needing to use this for legal purposes (which I hope won’t be necessary!), it would simply be a case of handing this over to the police, they can then sort out their investigation via NetIDme direct.
>>This systems avoids me needing to keep any identifying information on our systems.
This means no-one on h2g2 other than Aly finds out any more about you than they already know.
I hope that allays any concerns you have about the ID system
Ben
