Sho - employed again!

and in many countries in Europe, Ben, it's a public holiday to pay respects to the war dead. Only in UK it's not. And in this part of Germany it's the beginning of the silly season smiley - sadface

Armistice Day was my grandmother's 21st birthday. She was doing the washing up when she heard the news.

Wow, that's interesting.

My sister's birthday is 11 November. When we were kids, that meant we had her birthday off from school. (Dang that Monday thing.) She was rather proud of the fact. smiley - winkeye

Have you seen my journal about my grandfather's WWI letters? It's my Next Big Project.

No, I haven't seen this. (And need a link. smiley - grovel)

What a great idea for a project. It will be a gift, not only to h2g2, should you share it, but also to your family.

One of my grandfathers died a couple of weeks before I was born. All I ever saw was a photo of him as a doughboy. I wish I knew his stories of the front and the estaminet. smiley - winkeye

smiley - wow What a great idea. This sort of primary source material is a godsend. You would be doing us all a great favour.

Some years ago, I was visiting my parents, who lived in upstate New York at the time. On a whim, my mother took me to the Elmira, New York, local museum, which she had never been to before. We found a notebook of transcriptions from letters written by a Union soldier in the Civil War to his young sister.

We stood there and read them ALL, together. Then we went home talking about them. smiley - laugh

You can call me TC

My father wrote his life story down before he died, but he missed out all the interesting bits about the war. He had told them to us, sort of "en passant" but left them out. These were the bits that would have made his memoires interesting for anyone to read, but what got written down were just family details and fairly domestic, tame stuff.

To get back to the Journal Month thing - I'm up for it. I've had a quick look at the page, but can't find any suggestions for marking the journals so that readers know it's a "homework" journal rather than a spontaneous Special Occasion one.

Erm - Have I understood it right - the National Blogging thing is for people who blog anywhere - even here. Won't that mean that we get an influx of readers from other blog sites? That's good, isn't it?

But that shows what was important to HIM, TC.

I'm doing mine in the format

So people know to skip them!

Ooooh. Good idea, Ben. Shouldn;t assume everyone knows what we are up to. I'll add it to the page as a suggestion.

And another excellent point, TC. In fact, now you mention it I have a pre task task for everyone in the sign up thread...

Is anyone thinking about taking any of the other Create challenges? Pimping your personal space? Creative in a journal entry? Have you seen the collaborative entry thread in Ask?
