You mean, just because Google + is growing exponentially? And anecdotal evidence suggests that h2g2 researchers are early adopters?

Yep, we're definitely going to use Google + too.

In the future we need to be sure that h2g2 makes itself known on all new social media outlets as it happens. We can never again be languishing beside the road of the internet meme pool, er river..

Make it so you can cross post to H2G2 and social sites... (e.g. Google+, Twitter, Facebook, etc...). Goodreads.com (another site I frequent smiley - erm frequently has this ability with Twitter and FB)...

The problem I can see with cross posting is sites like FB and twitter have limits on the number of characters per post. We would have to have to have a 'read whole post here' link and have an option to put a brief tag line on the target sites instead of the actual relpy, otherwise we would have viewers on those sites being unable to see the end of the post.

The Opera browser has its own social media site which allows cross posting to other sites. I don't use it because the lack of a character counter there means I've lost the odd part of a word where I've miscounted, and I wouldn't want to character count replies on h2g2. I certainly wouldn't want h2g2 to have restrictions on how long our replies can be. I wouldn't be h2g2 any more if we did that.smiley - sadface

Well editting would be nice, but again, counter to H2G2 ... However, G+ gets around the character limit (or one add-on to chrome does) by posting only 140 characters to Twitter, and including a short URL to point back to the original post - on G+,,, Like so: "H2G2.com was my original Social Media site (back from 1999 onwards), was then (after what we HooTooe http://t.co/InP0kcN"

Also, this....: Very H2G2... http://t.co/d4U551c

(P.S. if you do follow me on G+ let me know you're H2G2 so I can put you in the relevant circle).

Having heard about people getting locked out of their accounts I shall wait a while before I even consider joining G+ smiley - lurk

Mind you, if they don't start getting some better press reports, I doubt I will sign up to them at all. smiley - sadface

Yer, the "real names only" thing is VERY disappointing - I can see their logic, but ....

Ideally I'd use "real name" only with my Family and Friends circle, and my Autonym for anything else (or Nyms)... If I can assign a Nym for a specific circle of people I'd be happy!
