I cruised the skype forums and discovered that problems started about a month ago, with skype -- there were ~~41~~ pages of complaints about exactly the same thing that was happening to me. So, on the recommendation of some, I downloaded the beta version for windows and installed that.
It worked beautifully and I was able to be on skype for the rest of the evening, although this did mean I had to listen to Happy Nerd singing.

Turns out that the drinking last night was fine, with no consequences, but the singing is the problem

I'm having a "Stupid Client" day today. Thankfully I'm meeting a few people after work for a couple of beers and to pick up some malt and hops.
Gonna brew a nice IPA this weekend.

Yup, 4.9kg pale malt and 90g Challenger hops in the mash. 25g Hallertauer 90mins, 25g 60mins 25g 30 mins and 25 last 15 mins of the boil.
Might also chuck 25g Saaz in as a dry hop during fermentation.
