So if humans really are the third most intelligent creatures on the planet (behind only mice and dolphins), then why the heck did it only take me two and a half months to potty train my dog and yet two and a half years later my daughter's still in diapers?

Funny, this issue is close to me too but for a different reason. I am learning to use a reconstructed bladder after radical surgery. My consultant mentioned 3 years for children to gain control, but as an adult I should do it sooner. I pointed out that the original is designed for the purpose, whereas my new plumbing was originally intestine!
Nothing to offer comparing with dogs.....
