a few days ago i was watching a movie on my portable DVD player whilst chatting to a friend on MSN on my laptop, they were sitting next to each other on my bed, my laptop on a folder so that it didnt overheat. at some point my arm brushed the edge of my laptop and i felt a strange tingle come from it, but the tingle didnt appear when i ran my finger along the edge, only when i brushed it with my arm, it wasnt just a quick shock like static electricity and only happened when my DVD player was next to my laptop. What was it?

"Peculiar.
Perhaps the DVD has a little vibration, only noticable with your arm ?"

It sounds like static electricity. The tingle was probably because the static charge was raising the little hairs on your arm.
Static electricity isn't necessary just a quick shock. You can build up a static charge over quite a long time, provided that you aren't grounded. Once you are grounded, you feel a quick shock as the static charge is discharged.
