Interesting entry.
Another remedy for crying when chopping onions which I've found helps is sucking a spoon. I learned it from "Like Water for Chocolate" by Laura Esquival. The novel begins with a wonderful magical realism scene involving chopping onions, and the river of tears that results. I won't spoil it by recounting it here, but I highly recommend it.
Can anyone else think of notable literary or filmic scenes involving onions?

There's 'the Onion Eaters' by JP Donleavy, but its that long since I read it I can't remember anything about references to onions! Enough to make you weep!
