Last night, my father went to sleep and never woke up. It's incredible just how tough and determined he was, but to be honest, there was absolutely no quality of life left.
It's amazing how much of my life I spent being annoyed by him and avoiding him, and how much I miss him now already.
He said a few days ago that he'd dreamed that his best friend (who died several years ago) had come to visit him and told him he's taking him on a trip somewhere wonderful, but where will be a surprise. I hope they're having fun.

We had been estranged and weren't talking for many years, but I'm glad that we made our peace at Mala's sister's wedding in 2009. In the end, it's only the good memories that remain, the rest somehow becomes irrelevant.
I like to think that, while everyone else in line at the Pearly Gates was issued ambrosia, a halo and a harp, they gave him a bottomless jar of peanut butter, wooden cloud-hopper shoes and celestial bagpipes...
