h2g2 history and the ownership/community debate
Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Apr 24, 2005
I haven't written an article for the Edited Guide in several years. I tell myself that I still contribute by illustrating, but lately (what with all my jobs) even that activity is getting squeezed.

Thnk you everyone for all of your help, and feel free to continue adding insights to this thread as you have them. I will be submitting this paper soon, but I will be attempting to get it published and will continue to monitor the thread.
Also, if anyone does *not* want your pseudonym cited directly for anything you might have said, let me know and I will keep things anonymous (or.. more anonymous).
Though I must say, it's fun citing h2g2 names in my bibliography.
Thanks again,
Beeblefish

I don't know whether this is relevant to your work, Beebs, but I am finding that my h2g2 handle is bleeding into real life. I have a link to hotoo on my own website and some of my friends and colleagues have found it. They are now calling me Lil interchangeably with my real name!

its relevant to other work I do ... I was writing about blogs in another paper and wrote about how odd it was when this guy who I have never met came up and said "Hey, I know you, you're Beeblefish!" very odd

I got my nickname on here from my real life nickname- kind of reduces confusion a little bit for me...

It's very odd... my nick is made up of normal words, so whenever anyone says 'echo' in a normal context I suddenly look up, startled and mildly confused.
I hope with all my heart that the enthusiasm I currently have for the Guide will never leave me. I sub and scout with gusto and I really believe that I'm *doing* something by it. I think this is way more important than my homework or my violin practising or anything like that. Besides, there's the status factor: we're all talking about the impending movie in school, right, and when you can toss off a line like 'Oh, yeah, I've written a few entries for the Guide,' or even 'I edit entries for the Guide,' you get such blank 'Wow, that's so cool!' stares that it makes it all worth it.
Beeblefish, I hope you post the text of the paper somewhere online when you've finished (if House Rules won't let you do it here) so that we can all read it! I expect it will be incredibly cool and amazing and fantastic.

wow, I hope so. I am planning to, but I'm not sure where.
Thanks for the vote of confidence though!
