(sigh - warm glow)
I've been ranting about this, here and in the DNACF, for ages. I'm sure everyone thinks I'm a raving lunatic but it's right here! A roiling sea of memes shifting, mutating, competing and crystalising (under the editors' selection critera) into the guide before our eyes.
Absolutely bloody fascinating.

AHHH!! Everywhere I go I bump into Anonymouse. But to the point, organised isn't a word. I assume he meant organized, if this is some sort of UK spelling I am unfamiliar with then correct me.

I normally don't see it as my job to enlighten the ignorant, but when the ignorant start to get attitude.... 'To organise' is English/Canadian/Irish/New Zealandish/South African for 'to organize' which is American/Australian. As the h2g2 organisation has chosen English as the used language, 'organised' is the only proper way of spelling. So get organised and organise an English dictionary for yourself. Another way of dealing with this kind of thing is to not worry about it: enjoy it for what it is, not for how it was spelled.

did I sound like I had an attitude? I thought I was able to avoid sounding that way by asking if I was wrong. Well who cares. It's a bit funny though, I mean the site can gets confusing what with the cultural differences and the odd way the net works. No one says "that was funny," they say "LOL." Back when I used AOL I was constantly bombarded by really odd spellings like "kewl" and acronyms that don't make sense. Umm, ignore everything I just said. As for the organize incident, I based my belief on dictionary.com which had no "organise" Sorry if I sounded high and mighty over spelling and grammar. As you can see from this letter grammar certainly isn't something I should be correcting people on.

No problem Siguy, it's just that I personally get bashed about my spelling a lot and to be honest maybe i do take that a bit personal! It's just because English is a foreign language to me, and I was alway taught to believe that it didn't matter how you said/wrote it, as long as people would understand. I kind of had the impression the guide people were like that too, so reading your entry came as a big surprise!
I also know exactly what you mean by all the abreviations (LOL), I had a terrible time understanding any of it! Fortunately I finally did manage to get a grasp on most, but also found out there are loads of meanings to the 'word' LOL. Maybe we should start a listing of those, for future reference...
So lots of laughter to you,

Your no lunatic but be careful and check out the two words in the top left of the page and DONT PANIC. Has anyone here read The Complexity Advantage. The first 3 chapters are spot on and Sir Richard Dawkins gets a mention. He hides his light under a bushell, I never knew he'd been knighted. It'll be Sir Douglas Adams next.
