As an after thought, I like the clarifcation page you did Count Zero, it shows that some progress (but not much, and in a rarther random and ad-hoc (hic?) fashion) has occured!

Okay, so we know Orion, Zero, and X are still into this. Lets make some kind of Members List so we'll be able to keep track of votes better.

I've done some research and found a Peter Cross born in Guildford in 1951 but can find no mention of him working on The Hitch Hikers. Are we sure this is the guy that did the art originally?

That's what the copyright said on my book.

I'm not sure if it's the same Peter Cross though...

There's not a lot about him on the internet. I just put two and two together though since the hitchhiker planet had a (c)1996 Peter Cross and there was a Peter Cross in Guildford that illustrated some album covers I thought there was a good possibility it's the same bloke.

hmmmm... Ive had a good look around and can only find references of him doing wine catalogues etc. I think he would have it pasted everywhere if he had done a Hitch Hikers cover!

I think maybe he just doesn't do the internet thing.

If I remember it when I get home (after going to the pub tonight) I'll check my DVD case and see if it has the same bloke's (c).

I watched my copy of the Hitch Hikers a few days ago and realised that the little green guys pops up in that, would that mean thats its the property of the BBC? It is however only for a few seconds so it may not be copyrighted at all, if not then we just need to beg the admins to get us one which may prove to be even more difficult task.

It's just my opinion, but I feel the italics want nothing to do with this.

Oh, and I've still forgotten to check my DVD case. smiley - grr

It's a good thing you bumped this thread up as I hadn't quite managed to bother looking for it earlier when I posted elsewhere. Here's a site which should console you for the lack of the smiley on h2g2 - at least briefly. Hover your mouse over the big 42 down the page:

Oksmiley - ok.... Cool link BTW.

Ok... guess what I did this weekend???

Come on, guess!

....

....

Give up?

I checked the DVD case for copyright...

Guess what it said??

...

...

...

©BBC Worldwide Americas, Inc.

That's right... the Beeb already has the copyright for this image since they used it on the DVD case. The copyright was for the overall design.

Which makes me wonder again if there is ANY specific copyright on the green hitching planet.

It's been used by various publishers, gamemakers, DVD distributers and willy nilly on the internet... And if ANYONE should be using it it is use researchers on this HITCHHIKERS website!

Ok... WHO'S WITH ME???

smiley - erm...
