Irving Washington - Gone Writing

Me too! Actually, I've never finished it. It's the kind of book that loses you if you forget to read it regularly. I had checked it out from the library twice, but can't remember where I was in it because of all the back and forth. Maybe someday...

Just out of curiosity, what are the other 4?

hey there washington irving/irving washington

Post 12

Flymba

Just out of goodwill - here are the other four:

smiley - fish "Jack" by Ulf Lundell - swedish artist and writer
smiley - fish "Sult" (I think the english title is Hunger - anyway, that's what you get if you translate Sult) by Knut Hamsun
smiley - fish "On the road" by Jack Kerouac
smiley - fish "The Prophet" by Kahil Gibran

... I think.
Maybe a long-titled book by D. Adams should be among the above listed. Haven't made up my mind yet.
Some fishes for you too

Irving Washington - Gone Writing

Quite a list. I've actually only heard of two of them (including Catch 22). The other being Jack Kerouac's contribution. Maybe I should look into those...

Being just out of High School and having had most the books I've read over the past four years force fed to me, it's hard for me to come up with a list of 5 I actually liked, but I'm working on it...

Thanks for your interest!
If I should recommend any of the books on the list, it would be "Jack" by the swede Ulf Lundell. It's about a guy in his first twenties who has a deep and cincere interest in parties.
He just loves going to them, and he loves to describe what happens there.
After a few chapters of this book you feel a sudden urge to go out and celebrate life on the first and best bar.

My bookreading career also started out with forcefeeding, bur after a while I realized I liked what I was doing, and now I find myself quite often just sitting in my sofa admiring my bookshelf. It has grown over the years - Im not 30 yet and I guess it will grow even more in the years to come
Maybe I'll write one myself one fine day.

Irving Washington - Gone Writing

I've never read 100 years of solitude. The reading that I did enjoy in high school was mostly dramatic -- although plays really are meant to be seen and heard, not read. Favorites include Hamlet and The Glass Menagerie, both required, then Waiting for Godot, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, both on my own. By far the most boring book I've ever read was Nectar in a Seive. By the way, who wrote 100 years of solitude? smiley - bigeyes, smiley - winkeye, smiley - smiley.

Irwwash!
Allow me to be your littarature teacher for a while:
100 years of solitude was written by the 72 years old Columbian Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
His nickname - formed by his much yonger wife - is Gabo, which to me sounds like an
aquarium fish. smiley - fish
This novel is his most famous, and goes under the genre "magic realism".
For the time being Gabo smiley - fish is in hospital in L.A under the diagnosis "General exhaustion".

Impressive, or what?

Post 19

Irving Washington - Gone Writing

Very impressive. I've known some people who should probably be hospitalized if "General exhaustion" is a viable maladie. Mostly my father and my highschool drama teacher. Right now I'm reading The Motorcycle Diaries by Che Guevara for my Anthropology class and Woman Hollering Creek by Sandra Cisneros for my English class. Oh yeah, and the French text of La Lesçon (The Lesson) by Eugene Ionesco for my French class smiley - bigeyes. Whew! At least it's all more entertaining than "Madame smiley - sadface Bovary".

did sandra cisneros write house on mango street? ... that was one of the few books ive read on my own...

-saffire
