I want to use the INDIRECT function to reference to other workbooks without having them open, but this returns REF! error. Is there another way round this? I am trying to concatenate other cells with the filenames and addresses to create a cell reference to other workbooks.

ยท If ref_text refers to another workbook (an external reference), the other workbook must be open. If the source workbook is not open, INDIRECT returns the #REF! error value.
At least, that's what the annoying little paperclip fellow says

If I find out how to, I'll write a plug-in for Office so you can terminate him with extreme prejudice
