Gnomon - time to move on

Margarethe of Denmark is also a great-great-grandchild of Victoria, as is Harald of Denmark.

Christian IX of Denmark was a co-star in the arrangement.

Josephine de Beauharnais, who was Napoleon's first wife, comes close, in that her son is an ancestor of many European monarchs

But, anyway, Queen Elizabeth has been on her throne for a long time. She's not allowed to vote, but she also can't be arrested. I can't get my mind around either of those two things, probably because I grew up in a very different political system. smiley - smiley

She's also not allowed to enter the House of Commons.

Or the 19th at St Andrews.

Actually, I'm not sure about that last one.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Magna Carta lists a lot of things she's not allowed to do. smiley - smiley

She's not allowed to enter the City of London without stopping at the Temple Bar and asking permission (and having a pint, no doubt).

On my side of the ocean, the most famous Temple Bar is located in New Haven, is also known as Mory's, and has been made famous by Yale's Whiffenpoofs

What I don't know is whether they would open their doors to the Queen. smiley - smiley

I was being slightly misleading there. London's Temple Bar isn't actually a pub. It is a monument in the middle of the road. Originally it was a gate.

In the early 1600s, laws were passed forbidding Catholics from living within ten miles of London. At least the sovereign was allowed to get to the gates of London, and hopefully enter.
